Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

The Founder

I found this docu-drama on Netflix. It's about Ray Kroc, who founded McDonalds. I'm not sure how much of it is real or fake, but the end credits told of the aftermath.

A simple synopsis: What an a*hole.

Train to Busan was one that Dom had posted about and I thought it was really solid.

I enjoyed all of the characters and really could get invested into them personally as well as situationally. I was not sure how much of a budget the film had going in but I thought they really did well with the effects and thought that it was well done.

Then again, Dom had mentioned Take Shelter and me being a huge Michael Shannon mark I watched that almost as quickly as I heard about it.

Again, Shannon just delivers and the ending....epic!

Other movies that I enjoyed not so long ago :P

The Girl with All of the Gifts
Enemy - This one just gets better and better each time ( maybe I have seen it five times )
Nocturnal Animals
Logan
Get Out
Okja
La La Land
John Wick: Chapter 2

I shall try my best to not be a stranger

I can't remember a bigger disconnect I've had with critics. The Rotten Tomatoes 93% is beyond comprehension.
Whenever someone talks about their RT disconnect movie I am annoyingly compelled to bring up mine - they give Fear and Loathing a 49%. Unfathomable to me

My biggest RT disconnect is Hero staring Let Li and co with a 95%.

It has all the elements of being an amazing film: beautiful cinematography, great fight scenes, plot twists, love triangles, and so on.

The movie is straight up boring. I've watched it with other people on a few occasions, and aside from the person I saw it in the theater with, it was always shut off before the mid-point. The person who saw it in the theater with me hated it as well. I mean, I know exactly zero people who enjoyed that one.

Ha fun game. Mine are Pi (87%) - Jesus stop assaulting my senses. And Iron Man (94%) - Robert Downey tilts me hard, but that movie is objectively dog ****.

I like that one.....

No real love triangles though.

Take Shelter is good every time.

Hold on. I'll approve of all hate for parts two and three, but you don't like part one? Madness. That movie is fun from top to bottom.

Great? No. But fun? Romeo Must Die and The One.

Not that it was a great movie, you might have to overlook some flaws, and it's basically immature, but I liked Unleashed.

Oh an RT disparity that would be a lot of fun.

A History of Violence is one of mine. One of the worst films I have ever seen. 87 on the tomatometer.

Patterson: 96%

Awful, terrible movie. Most boringest movie I've ever seen.

Darren Aronofsky movies

Black Swan 87%
Wrestler 98%
Requiem for a Dream 78%

Are all bad and I don't care what anyone says.

San Andreas 49%

You're trying to tell me that Requiem for a Dream is better than San Andreas, in which The Rock rescues California from a yuge earthquake. GTFO

All Marvel movies except Deadpool. How in the world is this boring generic **** so popular and well received? There's no dramatic tension, they're not particularly funny. Makes zero sense. Actually I kind of liked the Paul Rudd one too.

I thought I missed something with this movie too because all my friends loved it. I wanted to as well but it was just so straight forward and boring.

I might put Pans Labrynth on my list also but I'm willing to accept I was young and wrong on that. I'll try again at some point.

Fear and Loathing at 50% seems about perfect to me. Means half the audience hated it and half loved it which seems just about right.

For me Mad Max, Gravity, Skyfall, and Baby Driver were all fine but scored way too high on RT. I have trouble believing that each of these scored 95%+.

I realize how the scoring system works but still when I see a score that high I expect it to be mindblowing and these weren't.

(Pretty sure I'll get flamed for 3 of these)

I think this would be much more interesting with metacritic scores.

Gravity is a weird one because if I saw it at home I would completely agree, but I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was one of the coolest theatre experiences of my life. I was in space!

I think Bond is overrated in general, but I thought Skyfall was pretty darn good.

Also watched this this week, enjoyed it quite a bit. I liked the framing of the concept of persistence/wasted talent relating to Kroc and the brothers. I doubt there's any CEO out there who hasn't crushed a few people under their boot heel along the way.

Spoiler:
In researching, the "handshake agreement" isn't conclusively proven to be true.

Hm... I think all the fight scenes are good in their artistry. May I ask what you would take issue with on this one from Hero?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeeoEpmyb2Y

(you can argue it's a Donnie Yen fight scene)

I love Tel Toro's movies and I really enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth. Oddly, I know more people who dislike that one than do like it as well. I didn't expect to see such a high number.

Yes, that spoiler part was in the end credits.

The movie is conflicting in a strange way. Never lose the dream, you know?

The Marvel movies don't feel like movies any more. They feel like long episodes of a TV series with a huge budget. You know that none of the main characters will die, the characters do the same stuff in each episode, only the bad guys change, etc.
