Nope. The short story does give the ending of the movie away pretty much from the start, but otherwise stays fairly close to the movie. There isn't as much military stuff in the story, and there is more contributions from the other nations as far as decoding the heptapods language/message, but otherwise it's pretty similar.

I thought the entire movie was so ridiculous that I ended up liking it in a "oh this a dumb thing let me turn my brain off and lol"

What do you think about The Day the Earth Stood Still? The original of course. I think it's awesome. There's probably a similar message, but imo it's integral to the story and in Arrival I can see it being seen as slipped in.
I barely remember The Day the Earth Stood Still, it's been forever since I saw it.

TDTESS is a wonderful period movie... a personal favorite of mine.
the fact that it has one of the greatest sci fi soundtracks ever scored, doesn't hurt either!

now that is interesting in a lot of ways, MSchu. I think those days in Russia of John Reed's shook the world though.

Overall thought Arrival was decent, I like the first contact plot and resolution a lot. I did not like what I'll call the B-plot. Gotta go tho, Nocturnal Animals about to start.

ELLE

French people having sex: Check.

Old French people having sex: Check.

Cat watching old French people having sex: Check.

Mass murder: Check.

Plot twists within plot twist within plot twists: Check.

In other words, a French movie: Check.

Spoiler:
How many rape scenes: Couldn't say.

Kept my interest the whole way. And before Zeno or somebody comes along slamming the French, remember who it was who gave the world not only Lafayette, but Freedom Fries.

Check it out.

Taiki Waititi is a common thread in great NZ films. He's directing the next Thor movie, so that should be pretty funny. Hunt for the Wilderpeople is terrific. If you like it, check out Captain Fantastic, another great film.

Watched Green Room last night. I loved it. It was intense and a great horror movie.

I thought Elle sucked real bad, and what an annoying director to boot

Looking forward to Toni Erdmann and The Salesman when I catch up with 2016 foreign films!

To the people who recently watched Arrival how did you know the DVD screeners were available to watch?

Tomorrow Robert Duvall plays a simple man (hillbilly really) who takes a job as caretaker at a sawmill in a backwoods area of (who knows where) in the early 1900s. He lives in a storeroom, earning only enough to feed himself. One morning, he finds a pregnant woman passed out near the sawmill and takes her in.

I don't have anything great or bad to say about this really. It is very slow paced but effective in showing what backwoods America was probably like during that time. Other than the woman showing up out of nowhere, it was pretty believable.

I have to think that Billy Bob Thornton saw this before deciding on his voice in Sling Blade.

Dunno if I'm up on charges of piracy here, but I saw it in the theater.

I got that same distinct feeling also upon seeing tomorrow.

Just found this on Amazon Prime:

Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead

Here's the trailer (NSFW)

I'm watching it...will report back.
01-19-2017 , 01:37 AM
I'm not even the tiniest bit tempted to watch that trailer.
01-19-2017 , 01:54 AM
lol so far it's like soft-core zombie fart and sh*t porn

Gotta love the Japanese
01-19-2017 , 01:58 AM
okay now some chick just farted out a creature that looks like a mini-graboid from tremors.

The Zombies came from an outhouse toilet...up from the filth...
01-19-2017 , 02:00 AM
haha that looks ****ing awesome
01-19-2017 , 02:01 AM
now a farmer just shotgunned himself to stop from becoming a toilet zombie...his eyeball flew across the room and down the throat of some poor guy. Yuck.

Now a **** zombie that's been cut in half at the waist is hugging one of the girl'd buts and spraying crap everywhere out of wound
01-19-2017 , 02:04 AM
the **** zombie who was cut in half pulled the shorts and panties off the girl, but she countered by dropping her butt onto his head, smashing it against the floor. It exploded. In Slow-Mo and instant replay.

I don't know about this movie...still, it's better than Titanic.
