I've not read the Scudder books book but I loved Block's Hitman series.....assassin with a conscience...really good.

check out his Bernie the burglar series.
not dark like the scudder books, but a lot of fun and lots of clever word play.

Snowpiercer is, essentially, awesome. It starts off a bit on the slow side; but stick with it and you're in for a treat. The few thousand or so survivors of humanity have been living on a train for 18 years after an attempt to cool the atmosphere turns the globe into ice. Check all notions of realism at the door. If you enjoy post-apocalyptic and dystopian scifi you gotta watch this movie. 8/10

The Signal C

Enjoyable enough and has some style to it, but a very forgettable sci-fi flick. Some effects tastefully done, Laurence Fishburne is Laurence Fishburne, some alien things going on make it okay in sort of a poor man's District 9 sort of way. But there's a lot of filler that doesn't do a lot for the movie and serious pacing problems. I think it would have been better off a short film.

The Wrestler A

I saw this for the second time and liked it even more than the first. I never cared for Mickey Rourke and even less for wrestling, and they managing to make a truly excellent movie based on both. Looking back I can't find a movie from that year I liked better. I assume most here have seen it but for anyone who still hasn't it's highly recommended.

The Ghost Writer D

Not the worst movie I've ever seen but very empty and disappointing. I'm surprised this came from a book. Cast was decent but that's all I can say nice about it. Very 0th-level intrigue. The most interesting part of the movie was the house they were staying in. Looked nice

Man Jake Gyllenhaal acted his ass off in this movie. What a controlled, measured psychopath. I got a little weirded out when some of his thoughts and perception of things going on around him sounded like some **** I'd say. The scene that sets up the ending of the movie I actually put my hands on my head and went "what the ****" in the theatre. My only gripe is the ending itself, but at the same time I'm not sure if there was any other way to wrap it up. I studied mass comm and media in high school/college so I certainly enjoyed the setting of the story.

I've seen John Wick, Fury and Nightcrawler past few weeks, not sure I can rank them, enjoyed them all.

Is there a genre name for the type of movie like http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_(2010_film)?

I've seen a couple of them over the years, doesn't always have to be "who is the murderer", but that's the standard case. Basically a group of strangers thrown into a situation and a small, confined set. Another one where I've forgotten the name was about how after some catastrophe a group of people are trapped / saved in an underground bunker and do all kind of awful things to each other.

I don't know how to search for them, so if someone knows a bunch or even better if there is a term for this kind of story I'd love to hear it.

A Wednesday (2008) india subtitled in English. Mumbai police receive a threat of mass bombing of the city unless they exchange four creepy, psychopathic terrorists that they have held prisoner within a certain time period. One bomb is planted in the main police station. The bomber calls back every so often by cellphone to give instructions. The plot involves the police commander using every tactic they can to identify and locate the bomber including high tech computer tracking of the cellphone location and severe interrogation of street hoodlums who might know something. The bomber has tricks of his own though. Intense thriller with twists, turns, and surprises. Grade A-. (7/10).

Nightcrawler is phenomenal....best movie I've seen this year. Shades of Ace in the Hole and King of Comedy.

This was Dan Gilroy's first directing effort; really looking forward to future films.

Yessss so stoked to see praise in here for Nightcrawler. I'm not big on box office stuff but Box Office Mojo projects only $10m for Nightcrawler opening weekend. =( this film deserves better.

Halloween PSA: The Babadook has made it's way online (available through DirectTV and rivers) Definitely going to be watching this one tonight, i've been looking forward to it for a long time.

I also got VHS Viral but I've heard nothing but horrible things about it so I've been putting off on watching it.

I'm one of three people who didn't get scared by The Babadook. It's a fine film. Great to see a strong female lead with a female filmmaker. The lead performance is great.

idk what you call it, but it's a sci-fi setup that's used from time to time; my favorite example is the Twilight Zone episode Five Characters in Search of an Exit, which is just classic. Also see the movie Cube.
10-31-2014 , 11:15 PM
Cube was my first thought as well when reading what you're looking for. Cool flick. Only saw the first one though I belive there has been a sequel or two
11-01-2014 , 12:57 AM
I really enjoyed cube and the sequels. The movie that came to my mind was Blindness which depicts a futuristic-dystopian society where a virus inflicts everyone except 1 woman with the absence of sight. The majority of the movie is set in a quarantined building where the infected are abandoned to themselves. Great flick.

I flaked on it, had some stupid errands.

I just started Guess Whose coming to dinner.

The oddest thing about the couple now is her being 23 and him being 40. (Odd irl, not the movies, although they usually pretend the 23 yo women are older. )

First 99%: A

Last 1%: F, F-, is that a thing?

They seemingly had no clue how to end the movie, great otherwise.
