I'm with RBK. All hail. Maybe in this one he could go back in time and reboot that "viral" nonsense.

No hyperbole. Bourne 1 and 3 are the two best action films ever made. So excited.

Love it

Just saw Manhunter for the first time. Can't believe anyone can say Cox's Lectktor was better than Hopkin's with a straight face. Pretty disappointing for a Mann movie actually, felt like a poorly done Dirty Harry with an 80's soundtrack.

I loved Manhunter. Yeah, it's a little dated but I thought Mann did a great job plus the extendi Iron Butterfly scene was awesome.

Man, just got done watching Boyhood. Really special film. Gonna need more time to process that one before jumping in the discussion thread, but damn, 10/10.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - Wow wow wow!! First time viewing took place last night. A pristine 35mm print played at Alamo Drafthouse Ritz in Austin, TX last night. The cinematography blew me away. The entire train heist sequence melted my brain. The tension throughout gave me a sore neck! Hard to put into words right now but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone was on point in that film.

Hard to believe a cinephile like yourself had never seen TAoJJbyCRF. You just filled a significant hole in your life.

Mr Nobody - 6/10

Choices are hard.

You make the wrong one, you're ****ed. Make the right one and sooner or later you round a corner to find another choice staring you in the face. Don't **** that one up now.

And the reason choices suck is because our time here is finite. And if you know that steam roller of time is going to keep marching forward then you better make the right choices because you don't want to waste what little time you have living down bad choices. And make it quick, before time's up.

But what if your choices didn't matter? What if every choice really does split into another path in the multiverse and you can live all your choices at once? And what if the expanding of the universe and relativity and time dilation call into question the very notion of time itself as subjective at best? The crunch of time causing stress on your choices could all be for naught for the simple reason that making ideal choices is not the way to an ideal use of your time. Maybe just enjoying the moments. Love, respect, humor, enjoyment, all that jazz.

So back to this movie. Basically throw that kind of stoner talk into some great visuals and a confusing rambling over bloated script. Occasionally great, often meaningless, maybe that's the hidden metaphor for existence from the film. Life may be short, but this movie isn't. It feels every bit of the two and a half hour run time, and possibly now my timeline is suboptimal because of the choice to watch Mr Nobody.

****.

One of my favorite movies ever. Sounds like an amazing venue for it.

I've never seen it on 35mm. Pretty jealous. Go Austin.

It's just one of those films I never made time to see. Weird I know!! I wept during the night train shots. The shadows, the lighting, the smoke/steam. The silhouette of Pitt standing on the tracks. That's a master class in shooting a film.

My buddy said it's one his all time favorites. I think it'll find a place up there for me as well.

I couldn't ask for a better venue. The projection was top notch.

Fantastic Fest starts tomorrow. It's a genre festival that takes place every September in Austin. This year is the 10th anniversary. It's going to be huge.

My lineup tomorrow includes: Tusk, The ABCs of Death 2 and I haven't decided on the others. I basically won't sleep for the next 10 days. If y'all are on twitter DM me to see the other shenanigans i'm getting into. Like my trip to Franklin BBQ w00t w00t

TAOJJBTCRF might be the most underappreciated or underrated movie of my lifetime imo.

Not hyperbole!

CAPTAIN AMERICA WINTER SOLDIER

Finally got a chance to watch this and it was better than I expected. By far the best of the CA movies. It was awesome!

Rushmore was such a champion of that movie. I wonder where he got off to. Lounge OG.

reminded me a bit of out of the furnace in that the story is kindv a slow burn but the acting is phenomenal.

hardy and gandolfini just kill it, and the relative nothingness of the plot is more then made up for in one amazing scene.

damn I miss gandolfini.
Amongst the people I know who saw OotF, I was the only one who really enjoyed it. Good way of describing it, I do love slow burn dramas with lots of tension. The Drop's reviews have kept me interested and I like Hardy a lot so I should check it out.

I'm too lazy to look up the poster who does a summary of his monthly watches, but I like that format and I've started to get through some backlog of movies over the past few months so I'll rank them all. These are moreso relative rankings, not absolute, but they may align fairly closely.

(no star smilie, wtf 2p2)

Apocalypse Now Redux (1979)
Munich (2005)
Frost/Nixon (2008)

1/2

Locke (2013)*
The Spectacular Now (2013)*
All Is Lost (2013)*

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)*
A Serious Man (2009)*
The Short Game (2013)*
Life of Pi (2012)

1/2

Snowpiercer (2013)*
Short Term 12 (2013)*
Nebraska (2013)*
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug (2013)*

The Raid: Redemption (2011)
The Raid 2 (2014)*

Sin City (2005)

* - first viewing.

Lots of more recent movies on there that I never made time to see on the big screen. Some good, some not so much. Just not a big fan of the eccentric action in The Raid. Really liked Locke, held my attention tightly the whole way through. I think I've way outgrown my admiration for Sin City.

Yeah, I like the monthly posting of movies as well : makes up for a great list, and sometimes, a great discussion.

The Maze Runner

We live in a bizarre era where a ton of $$$ is thrown towards teenager flicks and frankly, I don't get it... Is it that it intrigues adults as well? I don't remember lots of my peers (I'm in my 30s) showing lots of love for The Hunger Games or Twilight...

That said, the movie kept me entertained even if the narrative is laughable. I guess considering expectations, it was satisfying. I guess it will be go on the list of "movies to watch out of pure curiosity", like the bad reboots (Robocop, Spiderman or Total Recall anyone!!!) or nasty sequels.

6.8/10

I think Jesse James is one of those "no such thing as hyperbole" films. A few days later and it's still in my head. The fear in every actors eyes haunted me.
