As a child: Baloo dying in The Jungle Book
As an adult: The 'hand or foot' scene in City of God
As a TV watcher: The very last scene of Twin Peaks

The final scene in Stepmom, where they all take the family photo together.

The ending of Stay, where Henry asks Lila to marry him.

The last ten minutes of Misunderstood, where as the child is dying he is explaining to his father that he never felt he was loved by him.

Speaking of David Milch being a heartless bastard...when Andy Jr gets killed on NYPD Blue. The entire cast emotes off the chart (Donna Abandando can barely hold it together).

Nice one. Andy Jr. was one of my favorite subplots of the first few seasons of NYPD Blue, the actor played him as such a sweet kid, it was unreal.

Far superior to Simone's death, which was a bit overdone (though I can remember Dan Dierdorf praising it to high heaves on a MNF broadcast, strange thing to remember)

The conclusion of Manon De Sources most definitely.

Both Jean De Florette and Manon De Sources are perfectly paced; beginning with a simmering, light-heard sense of frustration and very gradually building up to the Greek-tragedy-esque conclusion and making it all the more horrifying.

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film

I only really get emotional in sports movies for some reason. Remember the Titans has my all time worst heart-wrenching scene after the car wreck when the black kid (don't remember his name) has to go in to the hospital room to see his newly paralyzed friend.

Ending of Rudy of course is up there.

Ending of 61* when they show the conference after Macgwire beatrs Maris' record and he says something to the order of "They showed me Roger's bat and I touched it with my heart" kills me everytime. Probably because they spend the whole time showing what Maris went through to break the record, and then use the actual conference footage at the end. That whole movie is beautiful on everybody's part.

Ending of the Natural more just makes me feel really good when he is rounding the bases with the sparks raining down.

Even the end of A League of Their Own chokes me up when they are walking through the hall of fame looking at the pictures.

Red-coated girl in Schindler's List. Absolutely devastating.

Also end scene of same movie when they show the surviving descendents of the Schindler Jews.

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film

People have metnioned the knifing in Saving Private Ryan, but I get far more affected by the death of Irwin Wade (the medic). He was by far the most likeable guy in the crew, and this was shortly after he'd talked about his mother being a doctor and her coming home late at night.

There are several scenes in Band of Brothers that always get me, but especially the one in the Battle of the Bulge episode when the Cajun medic returns to Bastogne and finds the emergency hospital blown up and his nurse friend likely dead. That one just kills me.

Oh, and how can I forget every moment in "Cries and Whispers."

Which I think is Bergman's uber-masterpiece.

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film

For me it was several years ago...when I was a teen. My all-time favorite actor(Steve McQueen) was in the movie and imo it was one of the greatest movies ever made with an even more amazing cast. Two scenes. The first is when Roger Bartlett( played by Richard Attenborough) was shot down trying to climb the fence. The second was when Colin Blythe (played by Donald Pleasance), defenseless with blindness, was shot and killed.
