I saw 50/50 in the theater and lost it during this scene.

Nothing has topped this for me, yet.

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film

It's official, and through 633 posts no one has mentioned one of the most emotional twists of the 90s - the Sixth Sense.

Admit it - when you watched it for the first time as a child, it hit you hard.

Spoiler in case you've been living in a cave all your life:

Bruce Willis has been dead the whole movie

I don't know. I acknowledge that it was emotionally devastating for Bruce Willis's character - but that didn't exactly translate to the viewer. For the viewer, it was almost exciting. "what about the time when he...or when he..." and as you go back through the scenes its more of a 'woah i had no idea he was dead thats crazy' as opposed to a 'oh no he's dead i'm emotionally devastated'.

Re: most emotionally devasting moment in film

I have posted this opinion many times in my 2+2 history, but I never get any love for the movie. Will it stop me? No.

I'm not the only one, several sources rated this movie the best drama of the 80's. Yes, the WHOLE 80's, and this movie came out in 1980. Tough to do.

Testament

He was a child when he saw the Sixth Sense, so I'm guessing not really.

"Emotionally devastating" in the sense that the characters make you feel something tragic and real, not "emotionally devastating for the film industry as a whole and people who enjoy writing that makes sense."

Lol Rushmore. Perhaps we're being too hard on them.

There are a lot of those.

I hate nothing worse than terribly written films that make tons of money.
