Another vote for sam raimi's Drag Me to Hell. Really well made, original in parts, legit scary, and imo the campy stuff works. There's also a possible interpretation/hidden layer of meaning threaded through the film that has become famous, but when it first appeared was a total woah wtf nice work raimi moment. (Don't read link if you haven't seen movie.)

I watched Southbound, a new indie horror film. It is a series of 5 loosely connected vignettes about different groups of people having misadventures along a lonely highway. It was surprisingly good, with some solid acting performances, engaging plots and a creepy atmosphere. I also quite liked the central theme, which I won't spoil here.

Saw the trailer. There's just no way this could be anything but awful.

Just watched this over the weekend and was disappointed. Very predictable and full of jumpy type scares. Not for me.

Last Shift is decent, though it does suffer from some story dead ends that a little rewriting would have improved on.

Go see The Witch. It is not your typical Hollywood horror movie. This film is CREEPY and very well done imo.

Damn. I had high hopes for that one, guess I'll wait to watch it later.

BTW, for fans of the Saw series, they are confirmed for doing a Saw 8 now. The Saw series has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, i know a lot of people don't like them though.

I thought it was terrible.
Not even worth detailing why, just terrible on every single thing

Went to see The Witch last night and was utterly disappointed with it. Didn't find it scary or creepy in any way (well maybe the twins were a bit creepy but nothing else), and didn't feel any attachment to any of the characters except maybe the young girl. I found the story cliche-ridden and fairly predictable - I know it's based on fairy stories/folklore, but there wasn't really any originality injected into it anywhere. Then towards the end there were just some parts that were laughable, in fact parts of the audience actually laughed out loud because of how bad these parts were...

Spoiler:
Where the witch appears as an old woman in the stable and cackles (this bit would have been much better if she hadn't turned to show her face and made that ridiculous cackle), when the goat starts talking and where the coven of witches levitates

Was pretty surprised to find it had 90% on RT. Would be interested to hear a review from someone who actually enjoyed it. Tbh we only stayed till the end because we'd actually gone to the cinema to see it. If we were watching at home we would have turned off at some point before the end.

Better call one for me too as I think some "torture porn" (a dumb inaccurate term coined by critic David Edelstein to describe horror films he personally didn't like) horror films are great, such as A Serbian Film, Human Centipede II, Seven Days and Wolf Creek, to name but some. While you're at it, better call the psychologist for those who like shoot 'em up westerns or action thrillers like Die Hard, as anyone who can watch a film where the protagonist not only brutally kills people, but then makes heartless quips afterward is clearly in need of a good shrink!
Odd how films like Airplane! or Naked Gun are never deemed "comedy porn" btw, innit? I think they should be as we're apparently not dumbed down enough and need more dismissive lables to stifle discussion.

Recently watched The Boy, Hush, and the Invitation.

I liked Hush the most by a decent margin. The Boy was the worst by a decent margin.

Checked rotten tomatoes, 0% fresh ratings.

I did see the Witch. It was good, but not great. Still a top 5-10% horror movie though imo.

Looking forward to Conjuring 2. If it gets dumpster ratings imma be pissed
