I'm really surprised by this. They were so close. The main reason I'd even rate the original slightly higher (10/10 and 9/10) is because it was the original.



The Thing remake (or prequel in this case, does that still count?) wasn't bad in a vacuum, but of course is was quite **** compared to the perfect original.


I loved the recent Evil Dead remake


The second (1970's) of the (at least) four versions of Body Snatchers was by far the best, imo, real creepy. I liked the cheesy third version (90's) as well.


The Fly


Not a remake but I loved the Nosferatu documentary Shadow of the Vampire. Hard to believe it's all a true story.

Carpenter's The Thing is itself considered a remake. There was a movie in the 50s that is decent

Doh, I actually saw it on the big screen as a kid (not in the 50's) and you're right, it was very decent.

The Conjuring 2 - I thought it was a very good sequel. I thought everyone did a good job.

It seems that acting in a horror movie would take a lot out of you more than any other genre. The actors are always having to get into that terrified and scared character for 10-60 seconds and then cut, the director and crew do whatever and then the actors have to get back into character roll and then cut.

Shadow Of The Vampire was not a documentary and only very loosely based on a true story. Wikipedia says some of the characters offed in the film actually lived for decades longer. Glad you mentioned it though; wanted to see it when it first came out but never did and had forgotten about it.

Once you see it you'll know there's no way I could have possibly been serious about it being a real documentary. SotV might be the most ridiculous movie I've ever seen (in a good way).

Saw 'Get Out' last night - very good. Great balanced mix of horror suspense and comedy. Liked the soundtrack a lot as well.

The audience was really into it and cheering and laughing, etc, which actually enhanced this movie.

I enjoyed this, but I'd give it more of a B+.

Was not expecting much out of Ouija: Origin of Evil so I was really shocked at how good it was. Truly creepy, scary, shocking, etc. Def worth a watch.

Spring is an odd movie. Science is pretty LOL, and the ending is not great. But the dialogue between the two main characters is very real and way way above average for the genre. Several reviewers described it as a cross between a David Lynch body horror movie and Before Sunrise, which is pretty accurate.

I just came in here to tout Get Out. Not just great comedic horror but social satire as well. Definitely one of the better horror movies I've seen recently, and I'm glad it's doing well at the box office.

I just watched The Girl With All The Gifts. A worthy addition to the mostly tired zombie genre.

Having been a lifelong horror enthusiast, but never really fully immersing myself in the genre, I've always wanted to learn more. I thought it'd be a cool idea to start a project where I take a journey to really get under the surface and learn everything I can about the world of horror, or one of it's sub-genres such as zombies, possession or hauntings. I want to take in everything - Movies, TV shows, literature, comics, folklore, art and anything else.

I thought it might be interesting to blog about it as I go. Would anybody be interested in following along with it if I did?

The Void

A wonderful throwback to the good old days of 80's horror gore. Forget CGI, and break out your best John Carpenter blood/pus filled creatures. This splatter fest will have you howling from pretty much the get go.

The movie starts with two guys shooting and then burning an innocent victim alive. These two guys are about the most innocuous part of the movie. We soon see a cop pick up a bloody man off the street and take him to the local hospital. The hospital is then surrounded by a bunch of cultists with knives. These cultists are just about the second most innocuous part of the movie.



After that, it's pretty much a splatter fest of monsters, demonic beings, gates to hell, etc... I still am not completely sure what the plot was about, but I don't really care either, cause I was too busy enjoying the next incarnation that was gonna get eviscerated.



Don't expect any meaningful plot to help things along like The Thing, this movie exists for one reason and one reason alone. Gore, glorious gore!

Podcasting is more fun imo

Finally got around to seeing it. Thought it was well done.

I enjoyed IT a lot. Wasn't a masterpiece by any means, but was a good fun horror flick. Only regret was watching a lot of trailers, because I knew what was coming in advance in many tense scenes.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this on NF last night. It's a hoot just like you describe. The Void isn't gonna win an oscar, but there's worse ways to kill an hour and a half...

I think IT is better than 99% of the **** Hollywood puts out these days. Highly recommended.

I still haven't seen this one yet but am very intrigued as the directors' Astron6 films are hilarious, particularly Father's Day (2011). Their Giallo homage The Editor (2014) has its moments too, thanks for your thoughts re The Void

Cult of Chucky (2017) 4/10
Well this pretty much sucked & some of the dialogue is cringe inducing. Feels messy & thrown together too.


Leatherface (2017) 6.5/10
A young Leatherface escapes from a 60s loony bin with fellow psychos and a hot nurse & it all goes kinda Devil's Rejects throughout much of the film before hurriedly wrapping things up in final 15 mins.
As a TTCM edition it's not great, as a stand alone road movie horror though it's not bad & sufficiently brutal & gory to keep your attention. Overall it's undemanding but passable, bonus half point for some sweet gore with practical FX. Not a patch on 2007's Inside from same directors though.

It (2017) 7/10

Not as good as I was hoping but better than I was expecting & quite effective in parts.


The Girl With All the Gifts (2016) 8/10
Excellent UK infected/zombie film showing there's life in the subgenre yet with some great ideas to go with the grittiness & tension. Not gonna say anything about plot specifics but it's highly recommended.
