I somehow got this from Netflix even though they have a Very Long Wait on it. I guess I was just really lucky.

Now about the movie. I really enjoyed it alot. I thought the acting was really good, Clooney was good. He really showed how the whole case was dragging on him emotionally. Tom Wilkinson was fantastic.
I am a big fan of this genre (The Constant Gardener) and I find myself really drawn to these political/corruption thrillers.

a couple of scenes dragged on a bit and they could have been tightened a tad bit.

I like how they had his car blow up in the beginning because it made you think the people he borrowed money from were out to kill him. I thought it was a deceptive cover for the chemical corporation turning against him

I liked the movie, it really gripped me from Arthur's opening voice-over right to the end where Clooney gets in the Cab.. I heard some found it boring but I don't know where they got that, I thought the pacing was very good and most scenes didn't drag on...

I liked how they didn't really focus in on the details of the U-north case itself, that may have been boring to have a big court scene..

The Horse thing/Clayton leaving the car as the bomb explodes was a bit convenient, but w/e, didn't ruin much for me.

Love love love the whole end sequence when he confronts Swinton, then goes to the cab.. I heard from imdb that cab idea was taken from another movie

I liked how the main character/hero wasn't a perfect moral person and actually had flaws.. Clayton looked after himself in paying off the loanshark and selling Arthur out, and really only sprung into action full-force after the car-bomb.

Anyone think that Arthur's performance/character reminded them a ton of Howard Beale in Network?

my only gripe in this movie is that they showed what happened in the beginning and then flashed back for the bulk of the plot. IMO this device is used late in the editing process when test audiences dont seem to get the whole plot. It's a crutch used to dumb-down the storytelling process to make sure no one gets left behind. 9/10

Maybe in some films but definitely not in this one. It added a lot to the movie. Besides, I read the shooting script - it's exactly as you see it on screen!

Saw this recently...it was good...i do think it was overrated...there was nothing really memorable about it...Wilkinson gave a great performance but i basically stopped caring 5 minutes after it was over and didn't really bother reflecting on it...def not best picture material

LOL at this post made on 10/27/07. I finally saw this on 5/27/08 (trippy that it's on the 27th's just noticed that). I guess that's what... 7 months later, interesting. Anyways. WOW AT THIS FILM. COMPLETELY BLEW MY MIND AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY A MASTERPIECE AND PERFECT TO ME. holy cow. makes you THINK. not just about what is going on, but about LIFE. forces you to look at your own life and also just made me realize how many people are not honest with themselves, including me. it's one thing to not be honest with other people but to not be honest with yourself, well that's a path called slow suicide.

the cinematography and music are both great. the music never calls attention to itself, i love that. it adds and doesn't overpower like so many scores do (in flawed and sophistic attempts to make a scene feel). the cinematography is INCREDIBLE. that guy Robert Elswit is definitely one of the best cinematographers working today (there will be blood, etc.).

acting is what makes this film. of course along with that is the script. which SHOULD HAVE THE ACADEMY NO DOUBT NO QUESTION. this film should have won a lot more academies.

i liked the departed a lot. i felt every scene was pretty killer. but this film, is like 3 times better than the departed. holy crap sooooo good.

i would say more but it's turning into a rant from a teen obsessed with a boy band. just. see it. and masterpiece. a classic.

oh yea. and so sad sidney pollack is gone. dude was amazing in this film.

also wilkinson's character is one of the most awesomest i have ever seen.

I honestly don't see why this got such glowing reviews. It seemed to be a rather generic legal thriller to me.

I guess I shouldn't say generic. The story was generic. The presentation wasn't, as it seemed to aspire to be an Important Film. But I don't think that saved the story.

Just saw this for the 4th time...it just grows in stature with every viewing. Two things that really struck me this time - Sydney Pollack died too young, and that he should've acted more.

godamn the Gilroy bros are such incredible talents.

He was my fave part of Eyes Wide Shut, other than the nudity ldo.

A month away from 74 isn't really possible to be "too young" but I digress.
