Klavs,

Is it odd being back in Australia? Any differences more obvious now that you've been in the States for a while? What part are staying in? Mrs. Busto and I are talking about moving there once we finish our PhDs.

It's script central here at Dom's apartment. He's working on a script. I'm working on a script.

His is better than mine, at least for now. Part of the beauty of film is how many times that can change between now and when they're both unspooling for audiences, whenever that is.

It is kinda odd. But in other ways it's like I never left.

Some stuff I have noticed more so now:

The people. People in Australia are just far more friendly than in America. That's not to say all Americans are not nice, just the ratio of friendly:unfriendly is a lot higher in Australia than America.

The food. Australians eat a lot healthier than Americans. I've noticed this a lot after being back even only 2 days.

The weather. Australians are bitching about it being 58 degrees outside saying it's freezing. I'm now acclimated to American weather, and am more than comfortable.

Little stuff like that. Also, when I'm driving back here I keep putting on the windscreen wipers when I want to signal. I have to get used to Australian cars again, lol.

You need to spend some time in California and the American west.

Yeah I think my views are jaded by the majority of my impression of America being from the north east.

And the upper midwest. But not the upper midwest in the winter.

Of course this is correct. Most of the states have normally laid back and friendly people. For endemic rudeness try the eastern seaboard with the exceptions of Maine and the Carolinas, and the cities of east Texas (yup Houston, calling you out).

I once had a very bad experience in Memphis but that was isolated and race related.

Whatever you do, do not come to Norwood Ohio. Eastside Cincinnati is ok, as is Northern Kentucky.

All of the United States is beautiful in its own way. We are one of a kind. So many men died so that we could live freely here.

Re: May the hacker be caught and thrown in a dungeon: May 2012 LC Thread

It's so hard to change how I approach things. I recently realized that when I snag hold of amazing opportunities I start thinking "How do I reduce my chance of failure?" instead of "How do I increase my chance for success?" Either approach might make for the same results, but I feel like the latter is going to keep me in a better mood instead of keeping me anxious the whole way.
