Re: Married With Children - Episode by Episode Guide and Discussion

Season 1, Episode 8: Peggy Sue Got Work

synopsis: Peg wants a VCR so she can tape Phil and watch Oprah, but Al won't buy it. Marcy interferes, and Peg ends up getting a job. She hates it, Al hates it, but neither will back down until the kids intervene.

5/10

Not a great episode. Some good lines here and there, but lacks a sheer volume of gags and the biliousness of other Bundy episodes. Not very notable.

First: A Bundy other than Al has work!

Dialogue:
Al: Now remember, kids, this is your mother's first day at work. She's probably a little nervous, a little insecure, so when she comes down those stairs I want everyone to stand behind her like a family - and try not to laugh.

Re: Married With Children - Episode by Episode Guide and Discussion

Season 1, Episode 9: Married without children

Synopsis: Here, Peg wants to go away for a weekend with Al, but he wants to see the fight. He finds out it's only on cable, and the motel has cable, so he agrees, even though he knows he must have sex with Peg. Meanwhile, the Rhoades agree to look after the Bundy kids, a decision they come to deeply regret

6/10

There's some good stuff here, but this one kind of coasts along. Enjoyable, but nowhere near the best in this season.

First: We see Marcy's bra.

Dialogue:
Kelly: Listen, I really like one of these guys, he's real nice. But don't make any sudden moves, okay?
Steve: I guess I can dial 911 slowly.
----------------------------------------
Peggy: Oh, hi honey. Look, Steve and Marcy are here.
Al: Yeah I know, I've been circling the block waiting for them to leave. And I finally ran out of gas.
Peggy: Well, they've agreed to take the kids for the weekend.
Al: Great!
Peggy: Yeah, so you and me can go away by ourselves.
Al: You mean, we have to leave? Gee, it sounded good for a second.

Re: Married With Children - Episode by Episode Guide and Discussion

Season 1, Episode 10: The Poker Game

synopsis: Al takes Steve to his poker game, and Steve, who doesn't gamble, gets a feel for tells of the other players and sits in. Al wins $300 from him, because of Steve's tell...he mouths his hole card (this is the old days, so they're playing Stud).

Al tells Steve every time Marcy asks about it, he has to tell her how beautiful she is, and if she persists, he has to make love with her. Steve ends up making love to Marcy all night....

Steve asks for the money back, but Al has already spent it on a rod. Steve enlists Peggy's help to get it back, and she tries but then Al gets her a gift so she quits trying, and Steve is left helpless, knocking on the front door.

6/10

Not a bad episode, but nothing outstanding (though I'm always tickled by Al's rudeness to customers, and there's a doozy in this one). I also liked a part where the guys reconstruct the perfect woman from bits of other women, and we later see the girls doing the same for men (Marcy: 'What about a brain?', Peg: 'It's a man, what do we need a brain for?'). Definitely worth watching tho.

First: The first (and probably only) episode that Al actually ends up materially better off than at the beginning.

Some dialogue:
--------------
CUSTOMER: No! Look, you don't seem to understand me. I want something that goes with this dress.
AL: A bubbling cauldron?
--------------
AL: Hi, Steve. How's it going? Hey, did Marcy ever bring up that budget again?
STEVE: Yes, Al, she did. And every time she did, I told her how beautiful she looked. And showed her. [shakily] I showed her till eight o'clock this morning, Al. She's out cold and I don't remember how I got here.
AL: Then it worked!
STEVE: Yeah, but I'm afraid it will never work again, Al.
--------------
Al has just given Peg a bracelet, and she's taken it upstairs:
PEGGY:[from upstairs] Oh, it's priceless, Al!
AL: [quietly] No, it was 15 bucks. [to the fishing rod] But you, my love, were 275.
Al kisses the fishing rod.

Nothing outstanding? Lol, I loved this episode! I can't believe how tight you are with your scores, DB. This was more like an 8/10 for me. Too funny.

---------------

AL: Here's what I do: I walk in the door. Before Peg can say a word - which means I've gotta
be quick - I tell her how great she looks. Then if it's real rough, I grit my teeth and
throw her a quick one. She's so grateful, she forgets what she was gonna ask me. And
even if she says something later on - I'm asleep!

God this happens at my house all the time. wonder what it means?

------------
STEVE: Marcy, I have to tell you something.
(Steve and Marcy hold hands. Steve looks at Al, then pulls Marcy towards him.)
STEVE: [to Marcy] You look beautiful. More beautiful than I've ever seen you.
MARCY: Oh, Steve!
STEVE: Your lips are like wine and I wanna get drunk tonight.
Steve gives Al another look and takes a deep breath.
STEVE: Badly!
(Steve opens the door.)
MARCY: But Steve, we need to finish our budget.
STEVE: Damn the budget. A man has needs!

If anyone's interested you can watch this episode on Youtube. Here's the link.

The Poker Game (1 of 3)

It starts to get good around 5:30....

haha Steve - "I like that Connie Chung" (omg that cracked me up)

Re: Married With Children - Episode by Episode Guide and Discussion

Season 1 Episode 11: Where's The Boss

Synopsis: Al's boss Gary appears to have died, and Al sends flowers. It turns out his boss didn't die, and Al threatens to quit if his boss doesn't come see him, just to meet him face-to-face after all the years Al has put in. Gary does finally turn up, much to everyone's surprise....

6/10

Another okay episode, but not great. Al does manage to get one over everyone at the end, which is starting to feel weird - 2 episodes in a row where Al comes out ahead...

First: Peggy using a can opener!

DIALOGUE:
---------------
PEGGY: Do you ever think about sending me flowers, Al?
AL: Why would I do that? You're still alive.
---------------
PEGGY: Ah gee, isn't that great news, Al? You just spent three hundred dollars on flowers for millionaire, so that your family could starve and your wife could go naked.
AL: Believe me Peg, I'd kill before I let you go naked. And no jury would convict me, either.
---------------
GARY: Al, I want you to know I appreciate what you're doing here. One day, I would like to have you on my yacht. Of course I won't, but I want you to know that the next beautiful woman I bed down is dedicated to you.
AL: Could you make it a blonde?
GARY: They make life worth living, don't they?
Al and Gary laugh, then Al looks at Peggy and stops laughing.
AL: I wouldn't know.

Season 1 Episode 12: Nightmare on Al's Street

Synopsis: Steve's out of town, and Marcy's all alone. Then Marcy doesn't own up to something Al predicted, and starts dreaming of Al in a sexual way. Al finds out, as does Peg and Steve, and the situation gets worse...

7/10

This is a pretty good one, where the combination of Marcy's self-loathing, Al's gloating, and Steve's horniness combine to make a pretty good episode.

First: We find out Steve's middle name is Bartholomew; we hear the voice of Al's mother.

Dialogue:
--------------------
Peg: In the sixteen years I’ve been married to Al I’ve learned there are certain things never to ask for. Never approach him for sex during Wide World of Sports, unless women’s gymnastics are on, then you gotta shot. Never approach him for sex in the morning, he thinks that is just disgusting. And never ever tell him he’s right.
Marcy: Why?
Peg: Because he’s a man, Marcy. And the only thing uglier than a man who thinks he’s right is Al.
--------------------
Marcy: Well, in my dream Steve came in and asked me if I wanted to fool around and when I said yes, he turned and it was Al.
Peg: My Al? Then what happened?
Marcy: Nothing.
Peg: Yup, sounds like my Al.
--------------------
Steve: Al, I'm horny. What are you gonna do about it?
Al: Get in here! Don't go yelling things like that. I got kids up there... out there... somewhere, I don't know.
--------------------
Al :Ah Peg. It looks like another little filly in the old Bundy stable. [he sits, flexing and posing] Get me a beer will ya?
Peg: Al. What are you doing in Marcy’s dream?
Al: [still flexing] Ruining her for all other men. [Al kisses his bicep]

lol! I have to admit this episode was pretty good. Actually, the entire first half I found pretty boring and was thinking that it was going to be a stinker but by the 2nd half I was laughing my head off. Steve delivered some great lines.

I can't believe more people aren't watching these with us, DB. This show is hilarious. Didn't Blarg say that he liked the character of Steve better than Jefferson? Blarg, you would have liked this one.

Don't you hate it when you dream about some random person in a sexual way? That's happened to me in the past, usually with some random coworker who I don't even like. It's so embarrassing when you see them the next day. Why does our brain do this to us

Re: Married With Children - Episode by Episode Guide and Discussion

Season 1 Episode 13: Johnny Be Gone

Synopsis: Al and Peg have tickets to the closing night of their favourite hamburger joint 'Johnny B. Goodes'. Problems for Kelly and Bud make Al and Peggy delay and delay their departure, ranging from Kelly not being invited to a party, Bud wanting to finish a remote-controlled car for a model car festival, plus Marcy stranded at the Bundys wearing only a towel after staining her dress with a fish. Meanwhile, Steve and Marcy are having a party for some bank executives.

7/10

This is a good one again, but has a slightly rushed and actually disjointed air about it. I found out why - it was filmed as one continuous scene, which is actually very impressive. There's some good cracks, and it's good to see the kids more active in the episode. A pretty good season closer, imo.

First: Al makes a reference comparing Marcy to a chicken!!!!!!

Other Note: Marcy wears a towel from the motel in the episode 'Married without Children'.

Dialogue:
--------------------
Al: Here, Peg, you go, and have a good time.
Peggy: Aww, that's sweet Al, but I can't go without you. My memories of Johnny B Goodes are of us being together.
Al: I'm glad to hear you say that Peg, because I had no intention of giving you this ticket.
--------------------
Peg: Wait a minute Al, we can't go with Kelly like this.
Al: Why not? Life will stink tomorrow. I know mine will. All right, all right. Kelly, this usually takes an hour. I say "What's the matter?", you say "Nothing", I say "Come on honey, I know something’s wrong, what is it?", you say "Nothing". So lets cut the crap! What's wrong?
Kelly: Nothing.
--------------------
[Marcy is looking for a fish eye that fell off a large broiled haddock while wearing only a towel]
Marcy Rhoades: Do you see a fish eye down there?
Al: No, but I see a chicken leg.

I just finished watching this one DB. This is very much how I remember MWC. I have to agree with you that it was just okay, not great. I think your 6/10 is fair. The kids were pretty funny. That little Bud sure can deliver a line! He's good, but I missed Steve.

My favorite scene is when Al is lounging around in his pajamas and bugging the **** out of Peggy (man she's good)

-----------------------------
AL: All right, I said I was going, and I'm going. But lemme tell you something: I'm not gonna just disappear. You'll see me again. Wherever a fat woman shoves her smelly foot in front of some poor guy's face - I'll be there. Wherever someone comes into the store and tries to exchange a pair of shoes he's been wearing for three months - I'll be there. Whenever kids come into the store, take off their old shoes and try to sneak out with new
ones - I'll be there, too. [To Nancy:] Madame, when Shamu needs a mate - you'll be there.
------------------------------
AL: What, do you think I like being here with you? Look, it's not like I haven't checked out
the want ads. Look at this.

(Al shows Peggy the newspaper.)

AL: All these jobs want a college degree, or computer skills, or worse - references. What am I supposed to do, stoop as low as this cheap blonde who can't read or write?
-----------------------------

Lol
