Pilots. 2 shows in the last 2 or 3 seasons were actually.pilots for other shows. They were bad.

There was a pilot in an earlier season that was actually pretty good. Starred Matt LeBlanc.

Oh. You still gave them a 5 or higher, right? You were a bit nice on the ratings, but that's, like, just your opinion, man.

There were a few in the later seasons that I found almost unwatchable (the pilots were probably included).

Solid work itt, though.

Going by memory, there are a few that I remember as being particularly funny:
  • The Miss Hathaway episodes.
  • The gold mining one.
  • The one where Al becomes a shirtless bartender.
  • Bud the director.
  • Kelly's commercials (the big zit episode).
  • Bud and the cute cousin.

Just off the top of my head. There are a ton of good episodes, though.

I don't remember your rating for the High IQ episode, but I remember it being much lower than I though the episode deserved. Al and Jefferson's physical comedy trying to build a workbench were top notch , along with the wives taking pics of there misfortunes.

It had a lot to do with the fact it was a Fox show. They were an upstart going against the established networks. They could make fun of everyone and everyone be damned.

Now it's cable that has taken over that role with their original programming and ability not to have to answer to network censors. God forbid a breast or a four letter work goes out over the airwaves. Have you seen how a network cowers with appologies to it's audience if a sideline mike picks up a player swearing on a sideline?

Just make it bland and don't offend anyone. Kind of like politics now a days.

I'm thinking I might start this off again. So should I bump each episode and add extra notes/revised scores, or just do it fresh?

synopsis: Al gets to the bank late on Christmas eve, and can't get his money out. He gets home with no presents, and Peg and the kids abandon him, and he gets electrocuted fixing the Christmas lights. Then his guardian angel appears, and shows him how live would have been if he'd never lived.

8/10: This is a great pair of episodes, with the terrific Sam Kinison playing Al's guardian angel (the original casting of Al + Peg had Sam Kinison and Roseanne Barr btw!), with lots of solid laughs, especially at Al as he gets more peeved, the happier his family are.

Oh and this is our first glimpse of Ted McGinley, who becomes Jefferson Darcy in season 5! Whooooaaaaaaa Jablonsky!

Dialogue:
---------------------------------------------------------
(Peggy enters. She is wearing a red nightgown and has a huge green bow tied around her.)
Peg: Come unwrap your Christmas present.
Al: [sitting up, excited] Where is it??
Peg: It's me, you feeb.
Al: Aw, Peg, how do you expect me to get excited when you just re-wrap the same old junk I didn't play with the year before?
--------------------------------------------------------
Al:
Twas the night before christmas, and all through the house,
no food was a stirring, not even a mouse.
Stockings were hung 'round dad's neck like a tie,
along with a note that said "presents or die".
Children were plotting all night in their beds,
while the wife's constant whining was splitting his head.
But daddy had money this year in the bank,
then they closed up early, now dad's in the tank.
... and all of a sudden Santa appeared,
a sneer on his face, booze in his beard.
Santa I said as he laughed merrily,
you do so much for others do something for me.
Bundy he said, you only sell shoes,
your son is a sneak-thief, your daughters' a flooze.
Ho Ho Santa said, should I mention your wife,
her hair's like an a-bomb, her nails like a knife.
As he climbs up the chimney, that fat piece of dung,
he mooned me two times, he stuck out his tongue.
And I heard him exclaim, as he broke wind with glee:
YOU'RE MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, YOU'LL NEVER BE FREE.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Al: Now who wants to hear about the red-headed Grinch who stole Uncle Al's life?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peggy: Aw, honey. I know what would make you feel better. But I'll never leave you, not in a million years. So, Al, what's the family plan for Christmas this year?
Bud: Five bowls a-flushing?
Peggy: Four 'roids a-throbbing?
Kelly: Three nose hairs waving?
Bud: Two children starving?
Peggy: [singing] One un-touched wife.
HoHoHo

I'm starting to work through these with my kids. I'm only doing a few of season 1, cos they're not fully in their stride, and then starting from season 2 onwards.

Bump

Was watching married with children while eating my cheerios this morning. Show was clearly way ahead of its time. Griff wins tickets to the Olympics in Atlanta thanks to Al. A party is thrown for them at the shoe store where a couple of name athletes of the 90's (roy jones jr. Larry Brown and bo Jackson) show up. The athletes keep asking Marcy if she is Bruce Jenner.

I guess everyone knew back then too lol
