Have seen the first 2 episodes and while it hasn't totally clicked yet, this show has the potential to be Deadwood/Sopranos level great imo. The Milch dialog is great as always, and the huge cast is full of interesting characters.

Anyone who has ever spent time hanging around a racetrack (and hanging around with degenerate gamblers), will recognize the authenticity of the world this show depicts. It's already been renewed for a 2nd season. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a good new show to watch!

Really glad a Lounge discussion is [potentially] starting about this show, although I get the feeling that not many people around here watch shows while they're actually on the air. Anyway, I believe in the authenticity of this show, but for the most part I have no idea what's going on. I can only understand about 50% of what is said and much of the story seems to rely on inside knowledge only a racetrack-person would know. I would love to ask specific questions related to the story if this thread gets active...

There is no such thing as a pretty good thread in OOTV They typically start well but deteriorate quickly. You Talk Funny does has some good info there though but the poker nits will devastate that thread eventually.

I'm loving Luck so far. I watched the first 2 episodes back to back last week and am 100% hooked. Love the degen crew, love Nolte, love Hoffman and Farina. I'm thinking this is best new show in a while. I already like it more than Boardwalk Empire or Homeland and those shows are great.

agree I like it much better than Boardwalk Empire so far also. I am a sucker for Milch's bizarro dialogue, was in mourning when Deadwood went off the air.

My wife knows nothing about gambling/horse racing, so she is a little confused. But shows like this take a few episodes to sink in... she was very confused during the first couple episodes of the Wire but ended up loving it.

For anyone familiar with horse racing you will probably enjoy it that much more. I absolutely love the degenerate gambler characters, they are such low-lives but you kind of root for them anyway.

Me too! Deadwood was and is my all-time favorite scripted drama.

Loving it so far. Most excited I've been about a TV show in a while.
