Night out with a group of friends from high school, a sort of impromptu 45 year reunion.
08-05-2016 , 02:31 PM
Have fun. Forty-five years sounds like a long time - but it goes by quickly.

My dad went to his 65th hs reunion this year, still 3 or 4 of them around. They do it jointly with other years.

I went to my 40th college reunion last year but I haven't seen anyone from high school since high school. Just never kept in touch but get together with college buddies every year.

Zeno,

Far too quickly, and I realize this more and more each day. Nice to see old friends, but missing many who are gone far too soon.

I'm visiting NYC for the first time. It's awesome! Why did I wait so long? Had some great bagels today. Would welcome lunch suggestions. We're staying in midtown. Tomorrow we're going to see Central Park

Have skipped all prior "official" hs reunions (10 & 15 yrs). Do plan to go to 20. I would say I am fb friends with about 45 of the 87 person class, so do know what is up with most.

Wondered so I looked through and it's at least 55, which is pretty cool.

Sounds like fun! I haven't had a chance to see NYC. How do you like it compared to LA?

I'm having a blast here. Wish I could stay for a month. Many people from other countries, it's fun to hear other languages. We walked all over and wore ourselves out. Here, you can wander up and down streets and find inexpensive food. We ate some great NY pizza. LA was fun but slower pace. You need to come see it, Dave.

New York, New York, it's a helluva town.
The Bronx is up and the Battery's down.
The people ride in a hole in the ground.

If you can make it there
You can make it anywhere

New York New York big city of dreams
And everything in New York ain't always what it seems
You might get fooled if you come from out of town
But I'm down by law and I know my way around,

Me neither but the funny thing is after living in 8 different states since graduating I currently live a mile and a half away from it and obviously drive by it frequently.

Katy,

I love NYC. Museums, Central Park, architecture, food everywhere, bookstores! Enjoy your stay. Check out the Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park and the Dakota Building on the west side. It's where John and Yoko lived.

They are not talking much, and the talk is quiet, of nothing in particular, of nothing at all in particular, of nothing at all. The stars are wide and alive, they seem each like a smile of great sweetness, and they seem very near. All my people are larger bodies than mine, quiet, with voices gentle and meaningless like the voices of sleeping birds. One is an artist, he is living at home. One is a musician, she is living at home. One is my mother who is good to me. One is my father who is good to me. By some chance, here they are, all on this earth; and who shall ever tell the sorrow of being on this earth, lying, on quilts, on the grass, in a summer evening, among the sounds of night. May god bless my people, my uncle, my aunt, my mother, my good father, oh, remember them kindly in their time of trouble; and in the hour of their taking away. After a little I am taken in and put to bed. Sleep, soft smiling, draws me unto her: and those receive me, who quietly treat me, as one familiar and well-beloved in that home: but will not, oh, will not, not now, not ever; but will not ever tell me who I am.

The section above begins at 8:40, but the whole thing is very much worth a listen if you haven't heard it. One of my favorite pieces of all-time and Sylvia sings it better than anyone.

New York City is on my travel list. Not sure of the timeframe. Europe again next year. And Japan. First is getting settled in at my new abode in a remote area that will be my fortification against the crashing waves of civilization and the throbbing masses. Not quite 20 acres but there is a garden, and I think Voltaire would approve.

I may have to plan for a Tokyo trip for the 2020 Olympics.

I've got a day-trip to Poteet, Texas penciled in for the 2021 Strawberry Festival there. Ain't no party like a strawberry party, baby.
