They aren't unless you've sat at the table for a while and cased the opposition, and figured out how they play Axs type draws vs straighty type hands (eg JT98) vs big pairs etc.

db,

How many Omaha tables can you profitably play at once? It's probably just that I'm dumb or have very rarely played it (primarily as a dealer's choice in a home game) but it just seems like you have to focus a lot more to best calculate odds. That and you're probably seeing a lot more flops.

I'm sorta new to it actually, but if you stick to very tight starting hands, probably 8 if you're used to multitabling?

I'd stick to one though to start with. So you know, I understand decent PLO players look to book 20-25BB/100 as a reasonable winrate. Compare that to like 4BB/100 for decent NL players. (I'm talking FR here in both cases - no idea about 6max and PLO).

also Dave, at .25/.50 I'm a loser too... too many nits. Get to 1/2 and above and it suddenly turns mental and profitable to play all sorts of stuff.

I am led to understand that PLO and especially PLO8 are pure math games. It is best played if you have asperger's syndrome.

I imagine that the odds becomes second nature after a while. Like, exactly how big does the pot need to be to call an ai shove with your low hand? There are times you have to lay down a made low or made nut-high.

But as I said, I am whale at PLO.

there's got to be an awful lot left behind you with the chance to lose it all to lay down. That's all you need to know.

And the pot's gotta be big, and you need a decent number of outs to shove. That good enough for you?

I am hold'em player. I don't have the discipline to lay down bottom set, two pair, one pair, nor queen high.

You say "chance to loose it all" as if it is okay to lay down the nuts because you don't want to loose moneys.

Serious, I have head ache now. I prefer to play HU Omaha, or at most 4 players, because I don't need to adjust.

DaveT

8 is a nightmare, and I was way off. I can multitable 24 NL tables at a push, but even 4 PLO tables is tough. I'm sticking to 3.

20+BB/100 does seem achievable though (I say with idiot optimism, having only registered 500 hands at .25/5.).

I don't lay down the nuts. I lay down 2nd nuts all the time though, and am usually right to do so (someone almost always calls, so you get to see what the raiser actually had).

I was watching some clips of Poker After Dark on youtube last night. It is week 2, Monday if you want to watch it. It is a pretty good show.

Anywho, they were talking about David Benyamine, who is a huge donator at hold'em (stuck 1/5 mil in FTP alone), and one of the world's best PLO players (up 2.8 mil on FTP alone). It is pretty funny that they are sitting on public television talking about how bad he plays.

David Grey: "He will lay down to a 4k bet in and 100k pot."
Mike Matuso: "And big hands too, like middle set!"
David Grey: "But in no-limit, he will call an all-in shove with bottom pair on a four flush, paired board" (I don't know what he really said, but it was something funny)

Then Matuso goes on to talk about a NL hand where he raised four times with middle pair.

I got this image from B&M in response to what you say when someone sucks out on you.

I would love to make this a card protector.

I haven't read the thread, (well skimmed the last page.) I just stopped by to say poker sucks. To give you an idea of the last hour:

flop top set, opponent rivers a straight
make flush on turn & get it all in - opponent rivers fh

etc. etc.

**** me. This trying cash is not going well today.

After a while, you will be sitting in front your computer laughing like a hyena. Some of the beats are hysterical. Like you get it all-in on the flop with A 7iamond: on a A J 3 board, get called by Q T: heart: only to see the turn and river go QQ.

Those never fail to amuse me.

BTW, Good quality posts like this is always encouraged:

it ain't hard.

See 50-60% of hands preflop (including any ace suited, any pair jacks or above, any 3-straight which also has a pair and with 0/1 gap, and 4 straight with gaps - so J 9 7 5 is okay, and 3 straight where all the cards are above 9, and a shedload of others such as any pair when in LP).

On the flop only get money in if you have the nut hand or are drawing to the nut hand. DO NOT PUT SIGNIFICANT MONEY IN WITH 2ND NUTS! You can call cheap with lesser hands, like second nuts, or holding a set when the board is raggy but a straight is possible (eg something like Jh As 5c 3c and you have 5d5s). DON'T BE CALLING WHEN THE BOARD IS 3-FLUSHING UNLESS YOU BEAT A FLUSH!

That's it, now go win money.

(Okay, I'm sorta kidding with some of this. Read books on PLO, such as the chapter in SuperSystem2, the Ciaffone book on Omaha, and there's also a good chapter in the full tilt tournament book by Chris Ferguson - that book is edited by Michael Craig, if that helps)

Wow. I thought you were NHLNut on FTP. I played this one HU several times, and well..... He needs some work. Nice work, though. So much for Limit being dead. Still my first love.

I had an unreal session last night - in exactly 1000 hands I managed to win over 8 buy-ins (6 max 50NL). Every big hand I was in I won. Man, poker is easy when you run that good!
