So a lot of cultures/religions have creation myths: Genesis, Hindu stuff, Gilgamesh, Sklansky and Malmuth kissing for the first time, Damballah the sky-serpent creating the water, etc.

But this is The Lounge, damnit! I want to know how The Lounge was created. So there was OOT, and DieBitter and Blarg and Dominic all posted there. I can remember this.

So what the **** happened? OOT says they cast you out all of heaven like fallen angels, like DieBitter is Lucifer or something.

What happened?

If I remember right it was just really obvious there were two types of posters in OOT at that time.. the lord of the flies jagoffs (that are mostly still all there) and the PG13 actual discussion posters. There was a lot of tension between how people were expected to conduct themselves there.
Plus I think some greens got annoyed with all of DBs reviews on books/movies and stuff.

I think based on these two factors another subforum was was asked for.

Correct me if im wrong DB.

DB wanted a more sophisticated forum so he did some favors for Sklansky.

I had nothing to do with it - it's all DB's fault!

Eh kind of what livinitup said, and I had some support from Mat S. pre-inception, who wanted to split the OT section somewhat as OOT had got so busy and rapid turnover, but he hadn't quite realised what a tenacious PITA I was. I'm sure he will confirm I am a PITA.

Basically me and El D argued it over (there were others involved but we were the mains - but I still appreciate the support from many quarters, particularly Blarg on the main board, and Wook + Sniper in the mod forum), firstly me for it, and him against, then I think it became apparent something was going to change, so we started to try and find common ground. Then Mat said us two needed to compromise on what the new forum was. We came up with The Lounge (or initially called The Quiet Zone). El Diablo came up with the suggestion 'The Lounge: Discussion and Review' obv making the contraction TL:DR, and I and others quite liked it (though there's was lots of arguing about the name initially). El D. has since tried to sell it as a way of sidetracking my main arguments - and that therefore this forum is some sort of vanity/joke forum, but that's just BS to make him look better.

The rules we came up with are essentially the sticky as it is now.

Initial mods were me, Wookie and Sniper IIRR, and we then acquired Katy. We've also had as mods MadTown, Tuq and Mayo for brief times, and I stopped modding for a short while (I was modding a few other forums back then too, and I was concerned my name associated with The Lounge was perhaps harming Lounge growth).

I'm pretty happy with this forum.

Basically, there was OOT and The Lounge for a while, then the El Diablo Forum sprung up out of nowhere with its 'guestlist', and then BBV4Life was born (is maybe ****) out of BBV.

I think the 4 forums are are pretty good mix and balance - and people can choose what ones they want to spend time in.

eh..if iirc it was a little uglier than that. Seems like it got a little personal as well with you on the receiving end. Isn't Dominic also still banned from OOT? Which seems pretty juvenile to me.

Since you are the omniscient creator, why did ElD stop posting?

Not sure tbh but his last posts of note seemed to be arguing with highups. I bet there is more to it than that tho.

Dom wasn't booted from OOT just for the Lounge debate, IIRC.

Dom was booted for smarting off to NT

I like the idea that the Lounge was formed when the OOT Gods cast out of heaven a handful of fallen angels. I think we should stick to that version of the story, it's good.

My memory is really weak, but didn't some of the old OOT posters post in the Lounge for awhile (El D, for one). Remember when censored created the "favorite flower" thread? he was mocking the Lounge but it actually turned out to be a nice thread. He never made a bad thread.

E.D. was pushing for the name The Salon. The only reason it's not called that, I believe, is because it was put to a vote.

Nah he suggested it, I said 'that sounds gay' and he was like 'ok'

And yes, it was all very petty, bitter and acrimonious

Keep in mind--and why do I have to keep reminding you guys--that I was the one pushing for an "Over 50" forum because OT (as it was known in the old days) had gotten so out of hand.

Of course, after that, I had nothing to do with it whatsoever.

And who would know better, diebitter?

BTW, The Guardian's tennis coverage is a riot.

tl;dr was the tagline of a gimmick poster in OOT, Cliff Notes. It means "too long; didn't read" and for that reason I think it's a fitting moniker for the Lounge and still my favorite.

The fact that it also stands for The Lounge; Discussion and Review" is coincidence afaic.

Did you not read the above? The name is no coincidence at all.

And I wasn't booted at all. I left because of Dids acting out one time too many and how it reflected too well the long-term decline of the place and its mods.

El D definitely released the hounds on DB and me big-time, and it became like something out of Night of the Living Braindead. It's eerie the hold that guy had on people. They can intoxicate themselves on the mere odor of his sh*. It led to a lot of people behaving very badly for a long, long time, and the way he used it was ultimately very prideful, cynical, irresponsible, and damaging to the community. He was a good guy in some respects and almost always interesting, but something in him spread damage.

Then the name was created to fit Cliff Notes' tagline, yes? Because it came first.

Edit: I mean it was purposely done by ElD to **** with the Lounge. Yes, easy to believe.

I retained a Sweden-like neutrality through all. While I consider tl;dr my base, I still post in OOT and am also an anointed thread-starter in EDF.

I gave up the wars after tussling with *censored* when draconian modding first hit OOT.
