Okay, here we go...
20TH CENTURY ARTS AND HUMANITIES DRAFT!
You're choosing those pieces of art, and some people, that you think represents the best of the 20th Century. If you want to create a "team" that fits into some kind of theme, go for it.
All draft picks will have either been created or have come into prominence after December 31st, 1899. (I know 1900 really belongs to the 19th Century, but screw it, I don't care). The 21st Century is also on the table.
How you define the 20th Century is up to you, however, and you can choose non-standard picks as long as you defend it with a witty write-up. 
So here's what you are picking:
- An Album/Piece of Music
- A Film
- A Painting
- A Sculpture/Modern Installation/Glass Work/etc.
- A Piece of Long-form Literature (book, epic poem, novella)
- A Piece of Short-Form Literature (short-story, a poem, a speech, song lyrics, magazine or newspaper article, etc.)
- A Play or Musical
- A Piece of Architecture
- A Published Photograph
- A Television Show
- A Performing Artist (singer, actor, musician, comedian, athlete, etc.)
- A Modern Tool that Reflects your Design Aesthetic - but must be funtional as something other than Art
- A Philosophy/God/Religion/President/Grand Poobah/Guru
You will be able to acquire these items via this draft. When it is your turn you will be able to pick one thing from any of the categories, and no one else will be able to have this thing.
RULES:
- Anthologies/compilation books, albums or films are not allowed.
A series of books or films that are meant to be one story CAN be picked. Interpret that however you want, but be prepared to defend it.
- If someone takes an album by an artist/band, no one else can have another album by that artist/band.
However, if an artist has more than one band or a solo career outside of his/her band, that pick is still in play.
- If someone takes a movie, no one can take another movie by that director.
- If someone takes a piece of literature, no one else is able to take a piece of literature by that author.
However, if an author has both short-form and long-form works in his history, having one chosen does not take the other off the table. For example: if someone chooses a poem by Author XYZ, someone else can take a play or a novel by that same author.
- If someone takes a tv show, no direct spin-offs from that show can be taken by anyone else.
- The Sculpture category includes any kind of three dimensional art that is not functional as anything but art. Define this as you will.
- If someone takes a piece of architecture, no one else may take a piece of architecture by that architect.
- If someone take a painting no one else may take a painting by that artist.
However, if that artist also does, for example, sculpture, then his sculptures are still on the table. Also, paintings can be widely interpreted as a still image of some kind EXCEPT A PHOTOGRAPH. So this can include a logo, a computer graphic, etc.
- If someone takes a photograph no one else may take a photograph by that artist.
- If someone takes a play or musical, no other play or musical by that author can be taken by anyone else.
However, any other kinds of writing that artist has written is still available as long as it's not a play or musical.
- Choosing a performing artist does not get you the underlying philosophy behind that person's act; only his act.
If that performer has multiple skills, the drafter gets ALL OF THOSE SKILLS, and that performer is then off the table for anyone else, in any category. However, if that performer also creates art - a painting, an album, etc., - those are still on the table as separate categories. It is only the PERFORMING skills you are getting from this person.
- The God/Philosopher/President/Guru category can be either a person or a philosophy - but either has to have its beginnings in the 20th Century.
If you choose a person, you get them as a God only - you do not get any work they have created. You get their "philosophy."
- The Modern Tool category is something that can be viewed as both art and be functional in the real world (a car, furniture, laptop, etc.).
This might also cross over with other categories - and that is okay.
I am the sole decision-maker and final word on if a pick is allowable or not. I will be possibly arbitrary and annoying, but certainly fair.
The draft includes 14 people, and the order has been selected using a random number generator. The person who picks 1st in the 1st round, picks last in the 2nd round, and vice versa (snake draft).

The 2nd round is the exact opposite of this.
After you make your selection, you are required to PM the next person who drafts so that they are made aware that it is their turn in another way as well. This should serve to speed up the draft somewhat.
When making a selection, it is required that one includes pictures of whatever it is they are drafting, as well as a write-up which explains their selection. The write-up should be at least a couple sentences, and can be as long as one likes. The selections should be as specific as possible, and if they are too vague, one will be asked to clarify/specify. Also, make sure you start your post with something like this:

last year's draft as an example of how your write-ups should look like.
Spoilers are usually used, although I don't know why and don't feel you have to do so. But if you want to, go for it.
Once the draft starts, posters will have 4 hours from the time they are on the clock to make their pick. If they fail to make their pick within the 4 hour timeframe, the next person has 4 hours to pick. However, the person who was skipped has the opportunity to draft at any point, but if what they wanted was taken by someone whose draft selection was after them, they are out of luck. There will be no "deadzone" in the middle of the night because people keep very random hours & are in different time zones as it is. If you are not able to select when it's your turn, it is not a big deal, and you will be able to do so the next time you sign on.
If your pick was skipped one round, it will be automatically skipped the next round (which means the next person does not have to wait before making their selection) if you have not made up that pick yet.
If one does not expect to be around at the time of their pick, they can PM their pick (and potentially back-up pick if their 1st choice is gone) & write-up to me or someone that will be around to post these for them.
For now I will make all rulings as to what is ruled out by various selections, but I might enlist the help of others depending on availability.
