Re: June Swoon, It Must be Something in the Water (June 2012 LC thread)
Ok. We had a group of about 10 people at beer fest. 4 that I regularly hang out with and the rest were friends of friends. I have meet 2 of the other people once or twice before. We had no problems during the event as everyone mingled or broke off for a bit.
After the event finished and we got everyone back together. People started talking about were to go next. My roommate and I wanted to see the end of the hockey game. So we told the group that if destination was not picked in 2 minutes, we were just going to go home. The only real suggestion was the bar litteraly right next to the converense hall that had a line before we went into beer fest.
We start walking towards the city (3 long blocks) since we have to do that anyways. I say if we get to the city and nobody has made a decision, we are taking a cab home. The group starts walking and my roommate and I are leading the back with one of the girls who I had only met once before. The rest of the group is falling back some.
We get to the intersection and someone is climbing out of a cab right in front of us. We invite the girl to our apartment to watch the end of the game, she declines. We offer to share the cab and let her take it home after we get out (we live much closer than her, but not exactly in the right direction), she declines. We get in the cab and I text my friend (S), who invited the girl, that we are heading home and the girl is on the corner they should be coming up to.
While in the cab, I get a call from S asking why we are going home and telling us to come back out. Almost immediately after the call, I get called back by S asking why we left the girl. I explain the above. Shortly after this call, my roommate gets a call from S and he ignores it. After the game ends, I go back to my room and see i have a few texts from another friend that was with us at beer fest asking why I left the girl and that S is mad at me.

Well that's awkward!
Did you remind them of the importance of the hockey game?
How far behind were they again?

That's my question too. Just how far back were you guys from the group? Was it a bad part of town or something? Your friend is ticked because you left her there or that you went home or both?

This time of awkward social situation is exactly why I avoid groups of people.

Re: June Swoon, It Must be Something in the Water (June 2012 LC thread)
We did not explicitly state the importance of the game. But it's June and it's hockey. In fact last year, everyone did come back to our apartment to watch the game because the Bruins were playing.
I don't know how far behind us they were. The entire distance walked was just under half a mile, so it could not have been too far back.
It is not a bad part of town, but could be a little better. But in either case this is a big street with two lanes of traffic in either direction and lights at intersection. The immediate area is also primarily parking lots, so it is very open and there was a fair number of people doing the same walk we were.
I think the fact that we went home did not help, but this is about leaving the girl.

Re: June Swoon, It Must be Something in the Water (June 2012 LC thread)
Holy ****, I'm in agony.
Played flag football with a bunch or poker players - young poker players - at the invite of 2+2er Raptor. Cleats, proper flags, young, strong, athletic men running and passing and catching.
And me.
I made two interceptions and five tackles and got some respect for us old ****ers.
But this morning, I can hardly move.
I'm out of shape.

Thank you for representing Dominic.
Jacuzzi time and some ibuprofen should fix that right up.

TIT-
Leaving the girl behind wouldn't be cool in the circles I run in. It sucks that she didn't take up any offers of a ride, share a cab or to go watch the game elsewhere, and I guess it reeks of a double standard since you could bail on a guy no questions, but I'd make sure she was returned to the group before bailing.
