Clever indeed:

As I was motivatin' over the hill
I saw Mabellene in a Coup de Ville
A Cadillac arollin' on the open road
Nothin' will outrun my V8 Ford
The Cadillac doin' about ninety-five
Bumper to bumper, rollin' side by side
Maybellene
Why can't you be true
Oh Maybellene, why can't you be true
You've started back doin' the things you used to do

Chuck did well with light and fun rock'in music. He did have to work within the constrains of the rather strict and structured 1950's popular rock sound that he exemplified. Rather safe lighthearted teenage stuff. I always enjoyed it.

Chuck Berry goes to the 1981 American Music Awards and gives LaToya Jackson a deep passionate kiss in front of her brother

Jerry Krause died, the much-reviled Chicago Bulls gm. Word is that Krause's enemies, including Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson, have actively worked behind the scenes to keep Krause out of the HoF.

Loved the Gong Show when I was a kid.

This one could be a hoax, but RIP just in case.

Just thought I'd take this opportunity to promote the film "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", based on Barris' autobiography. It was probably mostly made up, but was still an extremely entertaining movie.

Oh, he also wrote this song:

Dallas Green died, Phillies manager who won the 1980 World Series. Only man to manage both the Yankees and the Mets.

Surprised no one has mentioned New York columnist, author and Pulitzer Prize winner Jimmy Breslin yet.

C'mon man, Yogi Berra (and another iconic one)! Yogi didn't manage the Phillies though

The writer/editor William McPherson died. Here's his NYTimes obit, quite an interesting life. Got me to read his recent essay on his poverty, which was really good. It's linked in the obit. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/29/b...-article-click

RIP Don Rickles

He was definitely a unique comedian and one of the last of his era.

I guess Triumph is the only insult comic still standing.

Rickles never really was my cup of tea, but he definitely was unique. And he was always fully committed to the premise too, very stylized humor. Of course the great Bob Newhart and Rickles were famously best friends and very close.

As were he and Frank Sinatra.

Here's an excellent obit from the Washington Post.
