My favorite Alan Rickman performance is his Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. You know he's never going to score Kate Winslet, but you're still rooting for him. His "give me an occupation, Mrs. Dashwood, or I shall run mad" line is so perfect. Kudos to Ang Lee for that way against-type casting, too.

I love Bowie, and I like a lot of punk, but I don't see much of a connection there. I thought punk was trying to be the opposite of glam, which Bowie represented in the early 70s. By the time punk came out, he had moved on, but to playing soul and wearing suits. The closest to punk Bowie ever came would have probably been with Tin Machine, and that was 15 years late, and the visual aesthetic there was the opposite of punk.

I'd say Neil Young embraced punk more than maybe any other established 70s icon...he even name-checked Johnny Rotten.

Grizzly Adams died, Dan Haggerty 74. I was gonna try to make a grisly pun here, but that would probably be in poor taste.

RIP Paul Ray, Austin DJ and front man for the Cobras. Saw him with SRV, Jesse Sublett and many others too onerous to mention.

Here's a video of Annie & David circa 1992 in rehearsal sharing their " last dance " together. This was just a prelude to the artists who were assembled for the Freddie Mercury Tribute.

Hmm... I grew up in Austin and never heard of Paul Ray. Probably because I'm not cool.

Character actor Richard Libertini died this week, too. He was always interesting to watch. Hilarious in the In-Laws.

RIP Blowfly. I'd post some of your stuff from youtube, but it would just get us banned. Well, maybe Sesame Street is OK.

Now Glenn Frey from The Eagles.

I remember having a conversation with a friend awhile back where we were saying how we're about at that age where our generations celebrities will start dying off.

That is most certainly happening now.

RIP Dallas Taylor who as an American session drummer played on Crosby, Stills and Nash's debut album, Crosby, Stills & Nash and their follow-up album, Déjà Vu. He was suffering from kidney disease as well as pneumonia when he passed today at 66 years of age.

The Eagles documentary on Netflix is really good btw. I'd always thought Henley and Frey hated each other, but apparently they rose about minor disputes and were mostly allies. It was the other guys in the band that really hated Frey, some of them anyway.

Incredibly talented guy obviously, RIP

RIP Theodore " Ted " Marchibroda who passed at 84 on January 16th. Drafted in the first round of the 1953 NFL draft he played QB 4 years for both Pittsburg and Chicago. Where Ted really made his mark was in a variety of coaching positions. Although he wasn't the originator of the hurry up offense, he was the offensive coordinator at Buffalo during the Jim Kelly years and fine turned the hurry up concept that propelled the Bills to numerous playoff contests.

I remember Ted Marchibroda well, great coach. I remember him most as head coach for the Colts in the 70s, the teams with Bert Jones as qb.

He was one of Belichick's mentors. Belichick gave a nice tribute to him after the game Saturday.
