ORLY, I would have never have come across this in the last half hour.
But maybe this does begin the conversation.

I'll add this. Cuba is open to Canada and finally open to the USA (i think). Castro for better or for worst is a legend who will be celebrated in ceremonious non-violent cataclysms.

And apparently Margaret Trudeau may have ****ed him. So even back in the day he was open to Canada.

Did I miss something that perhaps has since been deleted? I don't know what you're apologizing for.

Yeah I deleted a post inadvertently.

It said something like this:

This is the Lounge, right?

If you are going to post a RIP give it some content and not something we have already seen on Yahoo.

In before Yahoo! wtf.

So if my post wasn't deleted the conversation would have gone something like this:

Ah, okay, gotcha. And that makes a lot of sense. But in my defense, I usually do include some other comment, info, or YouTube clip when posting about someone who just died; I just thought Florence Hernderson was so well known that I would just acknowledge her death. But as I said, your point is well taken. BTW, here's an RIP I posted earlier this month that's probably more of the type you'd like to see here:

I was 16 in 1972, and a season ticket holder for the Miami Dolphins (as I had been since their inception in 1966), and Bill Stanfill was a personal favorite of mine.

As everyone who follows the NFL is aware, concussions and brain injuries are a major concern these days, but weren't back in the 1970s. Stanfill had been dealing with diagnosed brain damage since 2003 that had been getting progressively worse. Coincidentally, he was interviewed earlier this year by a Miami Herald columnist as part of an article on how former players from the Miami Dolphins have been struggling with these issues.

Here's the section of the article pertaining to Stanfill:

Stanfill, a first-team All-Pro during the Dolphins’ 1972 undefeated season, said he was diagnosed with frontal lobe damage in his brain in 2003 and tests last October indicated he is “20 percent worse.”

Stanfill, 69, who lives about an hour away from Fernandez in rural southwestern Georgia, said he took thousands of hits to his head as a player and has no doubt his lobe damage was caused by that.

There are days “I can’t remember where to go,” said Stanfill, who receives assistance from his wife. *“And even some old friends, I don’t have a clue what their name is. I want to be cremated but I want my brain tested [for CTE].”

Stanfill worked as a real estate broker after his playing career but retired five years ago because “my memory was so bad. I felt I needed to retire because I didn’t want to screw over my clients.”

Like many former players with cognitive difficulties, Stanfill is awaiting financial relief.

The NFL and players agreed to a potential*$1 billion settlement of a lawsuit brought by former players to compensate them for brain damage, but some former players are appealing because it doesn’t include CTE. That has delayed payments in the range of $190,000 for every former player diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or moderate dementia.

“I deserve every cent I can get out of this lawsuit,” Stanfill said.

My sarcasm meter is far from perfect so I'm not sure about this, but I think maybe yours isn't so great either.

tldr = the lounge, discussion and review

I think that made sense as a pun in context and I presume you were reading the posts about how this is the lounge and you're supposed to make long posts.

Castro was a drama queen who, for some unknown reason, found an adoring fan base among the Presidents of the United States. If they had just ignored him he would have been out on his ass in a couple of years, and perhaps could have made a productive life for himself waiting tables at a sidewalk cafe somewhere.

Well said. I recall reading an article not too long ago about the power of photo-journalism. How it really helped catapult Castro into the limelight and his paltry revolution into power. Images drive the world.

+RIP Rashaan Salaam

Heisman trophy winner (1994) and running back for my Chicago Bears. Only 42 Youngest player to ever rush for over 1000 yards in a season.

Just this weekend he was getting mentioned (I hadn't heard him referenced in years) because the Bears rookie RB Jordan Howard tied his team record of 3 rushing TDs in a game by a rookie. (also held by Gale Sayers) Then a day later he dies.
