I'm sorry, was Ms Cleo a Christian? I only recall her being mocked for being a uh... fake psychic with a fake Jamaican accent. Seemed to fool the Midwesterners who didn't know any better.

A Christian who steals money from ignorant folk while riding the new age wave of voodoo magic. She fooled me after all.

So I take it you're not too broken up over her passing then.

A fake psychic. I know people who went to see some Long Island medium and actually believed she had powers. Of course, they pray to Jesus, too.

There are plenty of ignorant, unreasonable, and unstable people who look up to Richard Dawkins as well. It works both ways.

Hmm, never heard of anyone praying to Richard Dawkins or expecting him to do miracles. Have to be awfully ignorant yourself to even try to make such a ridiculous comparison.

I'm not ignorant at all, I have read quite a few of William Lane Craig's books. How many of them have you read? Also, I said look up to Dawkins, not pray to him. I made the comparison for a reason, you're obviously not bright enough to see my point.

Never heard of William Lane Craig, he's not mentioned in your post. And yes, you said look up to Dawkins, but compared it to people who pray to Jesus. I guess I'm not "bright" enough to understand the comparison between some people admiring a respected scientist who has written many popular best-selling books, and other people practicing superstition.

So, you are saying that some people are believers in more arcane religious beliefs, look up to Dawkins, and are therefore...?

I think I get your point, but I'd say it is more transitional. Check out "Letting Go of God* by Julia Sweeney for a personal and honest touch on this.

If your world view is true, then everything you just wrote is subjective. We both know with certainty that science is not the only truth. Anyway, if we continue this conversation here I'm/we're going to get an infraction. This is obviously not the proper forum. I apologize if I came off sounding like a jerk, it's been one of those days. Take care, chillrob.

Not sure you understand what science is.

James Alan McPherson died, semi-famous writer. I vaguely remember reading some essays of his back in college. Not sure what his religion was, so go easy on him.

Gloria DeHaven died on July 30, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada at age 91. She had a persistent "number two" film career in the 1940's and 50's.

This had me look to see if ridiculously prolific non fiction writer John McPhee is still alive. He is.

Still a prof at Princeton, but has not put out a book not based on previously published material in over a decade (for him, this is forever). He'd published over 100 essays in The New Yorker and 30 books during the 4 decades he was actively writing.

McPhee wrote a good essay about Bill Bradley that I definitely remember reading in my freshman comp class.

edit: This is it, evidently he turned it into a book too. Would probably get called racist if written today. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/19...-where-you-are

RIP John McLaughlin, his show was a big reason I became a political junkie.
