Saddenz. He was a blast to play with. I still hear tournament poker players referring to their "M number". I once won $5 from him playing acey-deucey and immediately quit him.

A few years ago at Red Rock I had the distinct pleasure of getting to stack him with a flopped set of doodles. Obv had to say quack quack when I turned them over.

****, man. Steven Hawking was a huge influence on me. I read Brief History in high school and it blew my mind. Guys like him and Carl Sagan were a big part of the reason I went into science as a career.

Having been diagnosed with ALS in his grad school days, Hawking had been cheating the Grim Reaper for about 50 years, but I guess we all have to cash in eventually.

Yeah, just saw that Stephen Hawking finally got sucked into a Black Hole. No escape for him. RIP, sort of. His legacy (Hawking radiation, etc) for advancing understanding will stand the test of time.

blackholes_theory

In 1974, Hawking shocked the physics world by showing that black holes should in fact thermally create and emit sub-atomic particles, known today as Hawking radiation, until they exhaust their energy and evaporate completely. According to this theory, black holes are not completely black, and neither do they last forever.

And, I couldn't resist this: Constantin Reliu, legally dead since 2003, and reportedly: "banned for life from Turkey, banned from life in Romania"; a genuine legal zombie.

What a great photo!

Wayne Huizenga, founding owner of the Miami (nee Florida) Marlins and Florida Panthers, as well as a former owner of the Miami Dolphins, died Thursday night at the age of 80. He owned the Dolphins, Marlins, and Panthers simultaneously for a period of time in the 1990s, becoming the first person to own teams in three different major sports leagues. For non-Floridians, or people not into American sports, he might be better known as the founder of Blockbuster Video and AutoNation, among other companies.

RIP Delores Taylor

She was the female lead in 3 of the 4 Billy Jack movies and real life wife of Tom Laughlin (Billy Jack). She was the hippie commune leader in the movies. I loved those movies though! They aged horribly for the most part and the last 2 sucked but they all have special memories for me. I especially liked the first one (Born Losers) but Taylor wasn't in that one.

aw, damn...my favorite ballplayer when I was a kid. "Le Grande Orange" once signed my mitt at Shea Stadium before a game. He'd often just walk along the front row of the stands, shaking hands and chatting with the fans. Great guy.

No. The Big Guy. This just took the wind out of my sails today. He played for the .45s/'Stros, he was the shining light on some otherwise underachieving Mets teams. When he visited Houston with the Mets in the early 70s, he'd talk to the fans in the stands -- ask them about their family and kids. What a nice guy.
