Sad to hear about David Bowie passing. Only way I know to mourn.

It's been a while. Mostly been doing my own Finnish material, that I don't feel I need to post here. Here's a classic, though.

Playing around with my synth and Reaper.

That mic makes a huge difference imo. Vocals are so much clearer, levels sound good too. What kind of mic is that? Are you using a mixer?

Shure SM58, the standardest of standards. I've got that hooked up to my Behringer USB mixer, as well as the piano, from which I take the audio to Reaper, and do some slight amateurish mixing.

Thanks, I'll check those out. What is your main piano?

Is that intro yours on the last one? Kind of Chopinesque.

I have a Roland RD300-NX. Rolands are in my opinion clearly the best electric pianos, both touch and soundwise.

That last one is all Ben Folds. Beautiful composition.

Cool, thanks. Yeah gotta agree with that, never played anything Roland that wasn't a joy. I always thought the Roland piano sounds were superior to even high end Yamaha stuff.

Don't want to wear out my welcome here but do you recall how you got started with your youtube channel? I mean specifically what was your strategy that you initially used? Do you remember if you were doing a lot of commenting or doing mostly threads like this, social media? How did you get your first 100 subscribers?

Thanks again for the answers.

No strategy at any point. I originally started making YouTube covers, as my grandpa had got an internet connection, and wanted to hear my playing. I thought I'd put a couple things up on YouTube, send him the link, and he could listen to them at times. At some point I noticed, that other people were also looking at them and commenting etc. At some point I started sharing them on forums I was a part of, and with friends on Facebook.

I was pretty early to the whole YouTube covers game, so my videos might have been the first covers of some of the songs I started doing, and would get quite a lot of views. I haven't really put any effort into it to grow the channel or anything like that, so the views have dwindled down. Every now and then some certain songs (especially if I'm quick to make a cover of a new hit) get some thousand views, but most of my new videos just get some 100-300. That's also down to me starting doing singing covers, Finnish music and my own songs. Probably would need to have a more concentrated product, and step it up on the production side of things if you really wanted to achieve something through YouTube.

I haven't been an active of a coverer anymore, mainly because I'm spending most of my time around music doing different band projects. One of them is a band of my own, where I write the songs, and act as the frontman. It's a totally new experience for me, but something I've become quickly really passionate about. Especially songwriting. If you want to help me with this project, there's one simple thing you can do. A Finnish radio station has a campaign, where we're applying for funding for our debut EP, as well as a gig a Flow Festival in Helsinki. By clicking this link http://www.basso.fi/noste/leivo-2/, and clicking the heart, you can help me and my band with this goal. I'd highly appreciate it.

Oh, and if you want to hear what kind of projects I am currently playing in, here's the first single of my band, Leivo (it's in Finnish).

And here's something totally different, our soul band Mute Contour (we were also recently described as "Indie meets big band"). Perhaps more suited to the international audience of 2+2.

Been a while since I did a cover for YouTube, just been gigging and busy with school and stuff. But here's a Tom Odell tune I love.
