So, under a considerable internal debate here: should I stay or should I go?
I can list 100 reasons to go back to LA in one month, but the main reason not to go is that I'll likely be broke with no real means of income or employment, though I could do... don't want to ponder that one right now, but it would effectively give me full-time pay (nothing illegal, lol).
If I stay, I can keep my current restaurant job and try to find a room to rent. I'll have to get a second job to cover rent, food, and whatever silly expenses I run across.
Things I like here: people are awesome. I hear there are some amazing musicians here, but haven't had a whole lot of exposure to that yet.
Things that aren't here: ice skating, art galleries, hill hiking, live music, open mics, good beer... things to do... sigh.
I could stay here for a few months, really push to get my 100th attempt at a business up and running, see NYE, then go back west. I'm not sure how low I can go with renting a room, though it doesn't look that good, to be honest.
The other night, I'm lazing about and I hear a loud knocking. I don't get any visitors and find this a bit strange.
I walk outside and see that I accidentally left the patio light on, which is on the corner of the house. Anyone who attended grade-school knows that bugs are attracted to light. I see a few bugs swarming about the lights, but one in particular is trying to circle below the light. The problem, for it, is that there is a wall in the path of it's circular flight pattern.
As I'm watching this thing fly in this incomplete circle, it keeps ramming its face into the wall, and each time, there is a loud knocking. After a few more concentric paths, it finally busts its face hard and drops the ground, making a buzzing sound that indicates death is eminent.
I was watching this large bug from about 20 feet away and didn't dare venture near the light. When I saw the corpse the next morning, I figured it to be the size of my finger.
Spent a week on Cape Cod. First time I've taken more than two days off in a row in two years. Children, grandchildren, son-in-law, a niece, cousins from California, my brother and his wife, and granddaughter's friend managed to stay during the week. Only downside: no golf.
I'm on my way to Vegas this week. No real plans except for checking out the fight on closed-circuit at a yet to be determined venue and a visit to the Valley of Fire. And of course shows, poker and good eats.
yes the famous bryan ferry. we all know about that dont we. it was one of a few ferrys in concert used to cross the trinity river near dallas texas.
its nice to see some of our posters here going back in time to visit such a place.
zeno was around that part of hell for a time maybe he can enlighten us on some of it. if he isnt stuck under the foundation of his house where it may be the new place of his residence as we havent heard elsewise.. might make him a troll and we dont want that do we.
Watched the Solar Eclipse today. Near totality at my place. Was able to watch it live with the use of a welding helmet. Was cool to see and experience. The larger effect is actually short lived. With more than 90% of the sun blocked the amount of light is still very bright. Really only a dimming, noticeable but not all that dramatic, IMO. No birds dropped from the sky or anything like that.
I've been through Texas many times. Always a joy rambling about that big state eating the great BBQ.
The foundation work is all done on my house. Now I'm helping a friend with a roofing project. Which should finish up in a day or two. Then I can finally do some fishing down on the Rogue River for those famous Salmon and Steelhead.
uh, bad luck buddy you will be blind shortly. a welding helmet doesnt do it. you need at least a #14 lens in it and few have that and #12 is usually the darkest.
at least nowadays they have books on tape.
in montana it was about 90% and that is cool but without totality it just isnt the same feeling as you dont get darkness.
Went to the dentist today. I paid $100 and he told me that my mouth is fine. That's not what I paid hard-earned money to hear.
I'm half not okay, half okay with it. I never felt like I was being rushed out the door and temporarily tolerated at a doctor's office before. I know I'm paying cash, but sheesh.
