It's a wonder how how I keep from going under
07-24-2017 , 02:49 PM
I wonder that about myself, too, Dominic.

What's going on in your life?
07-24-2017 , 04:39 PM
oh, not much. Same old same old.

Hard working and broke as ****?

At least you got that lady still, right?

I got a job working in a little restaurant here in the Deep South. A huge difference from where I worked in Austin. It's like they actually care about cleanliness, serving decent food, treating people with respect, and staying off cocaine / meth / vanity drugs. Doesn't make the payday any higher or sooner, but it's something.

lol hardly working and not too broke these days. Still got the Lady Friend...we're headed to Florida next week before the new school year begins...a clean restaurant is always a good thing....

Got home a little while ago from a colleague's daughter's wedding. Stayed overnight and took my first day off in months. Was seated at table with a few friends, a co-worker with whom I drove to Connecticut, and a few strangers. I think for the third time we have been mistaken for married, which is a huge compliment for me. For her, much less of a compliment. But this old man will take the compliments where I can find them. Was up in the middle of the night looking for a fire that was close. But, it was far enough away from us and people got on it so all was well. At least 5 more popped up today from the lightning, one of them only about 5 miles away. It's smoky and smells like a campfire. Hopefully we get through tonight without any scares

its the erie feeling when fires are around that i dont like.

hope you get lucky fish as its shaping up to be a very bad year with the dam fires.
im holding my breath on the west side as we have lots of small ones poppin up. but luckily we have air tankers stationed near by my house.

get a big windy day after a few thunderstorms and its curtains.

I agree Ray. It's very creepy when it's like this and there are fires around. I was convinced that we had lost the house 5 years ago when the monster got far too close and we were evacuated. Really dodged a bullet on that one but it makes you me jumpy when there is anything close now.
We had one so close last Thursday that we had the dogs, guns and photo albums loaded up in the car and were ready to go. Went out Friday and got a 25 gallon sprayer with a 12 volt pump and have it mounted up in the Ranger. Mowed as much of the fields as I could stand Sunday and will finish the rest some time this week. Hoses are out and ready and I am ready to go to war should the damn fires come close.

the best way to save the house is to have sprinklers on the roof. when we had the big north fork fires the only place that survived in the midst of the fire had a sprinkler on his roof. and the picture from the sky showed his house and some green around it and all black elsewhere.
some may rather have the house go and get the insurance and rebuild for new.

usually i think its the embers blowing around that burn your house rather than the area around it burning in to set it ablaze.

if its a fire coming your way not much your hoses can do to stop it. that works on fires you set. best to just get out of there and set your sprinklers.

No way to put sprinklers on the roof. It is a tin roof that is pretty sloped. I should clean out the gutters now that I think about it. I will have to look but I used to have a jug in the basement that hooks up to the hose and will completely foam the house. Better take a look for that too. Gotta admit the sprayer is the only thing I have ever bought hoping it would never be needed

Saw a video on preventing houses catching fire. I'll see if I can find it again.

The gist was that there is a lot you can do. Mostly it's about not having flammable **** that can ignite from an ember on the exterior.

Things you wouldn't ever expect to hear the Deep South: Southerners using an exaggerated southern accent to pick on other southerners.

By the way, is anyone else getting 2+2 rendered in all white w/ black text once in a while? I'm getting this behavior on multiple browsers, and it looks rather strange to me. Actually, it looks pretty cool, but it's jarring since it only happens once in a while.
