Re: Insights: What strikes you today?
I realized that I take pleasure in others misfortune and its not a great thing. For example, approximately 2 weeks ago a woman I work with I can't stand got demoted. I feel she deserved it, she was terrible at her job, but I actually was happy.
Today I learned someone will be let go Friday, who I also cannot stand. I was happy to hear this as well.
I have had issues and problems with both of these people in the past. I know there are many things about me and the way I think that wouldn't be considered "normal" but I wondered today how many people would get satifaction from either or both of these things.

First of all, many people have similar feelings and often towards people they have less involvement with than you did in your example.
Second of all, the fact that you recognize these feelings and acknowledge how they made you feel uncomfortable is a sign that you are more observant of your thoughts than most. Many would have never given these feelings a second thought.
Don't beat yourself up over this. I would be willing to wager that you realizing this thought pattern exists will cause it to happen less often.

Re: Insights: What strikes you today?
To a limited extent, probably almost everybody, at least once in a while. To the extent that they can't stop gloating about it or think obsessively about it, a smaller percentage consisting of the less mature. But that percentage might be fairly large. It's pretty natural.
Seems to me it is both natural and acceptable to feel that way, and to feel a bit bad about it afterwards.

Thanks for this, Max. Sometimes I wonder how far off the normal mark I am.

Re: Insights: What strikes you today?
Today I had another one of those amazing moments. Watching someone who has a opinion of himself that in not only different from what others see, but on another planet.
How can you have your self image be 180 degrees from how you act? 15 years ago I worked for a government department with 176 people in the local office. During an reorganization the 70 project people were allowed to submit votes says which of two sides of the office they wanted to work.
Work for the boring paperwork based side run by a absentminded genius and his assistant, Conan the Economist or for the more interesting side with it's newish manager of six months? All of those on the boring side voted to stay but one. Everyone working for the newish manager voted to leave her. 69 of 70 did not want to work for her. She freaked. Had a breakdown and was gone 6 weeks. Her self impression was she was "a teacher, helper, understood her staff and everyone liked her". In reality she "treated everyone like a grade one student, was unreasonable, condescending and basically hated by most and deeply disliked by everyone else".
How do you no see any this??? How can you lie and decieve yourself this much? And she had been a manager for over 15 years in 3 departments and was mostly liked by her superiors.

He and HobbyHorse bumped into each other. Physicists still don't quite understand the resulting phenomena. They suspect cold fusion.

Re: Insights: What strikes you today?
What strikes me today is what needed to take place for anybody to be where they are.
Another thing that strikes me as I post is that the content of your thoughts is arbitrary. There is no explanation for why you think; what you think; when you think it.

The Book of my Enemy Has Been Remaindered.
What avail him now his awards and prizes,
The praise expended upon his meticulous technique,
His individual new voice?
Knocked into the middle of next week
His brainchild now consorts with the bad buys
The sinker, clinkers, dogs and dregs,
The Edsels of the world of moveable type,
The bummers that no amount of hype could shift,
The unbudgeable turkeys.
