I had raw oysters, oysters rockefeller, fried oysters, and charbroiled oysters this past weekend during my first-ever visit to New Orleans. Raw still are my favorite, but I really liked the charbroiled ones too.

I did a bit of that in NOLA as well. Just about everywhere on Bourbon Street has 3-for-1 beers.

I wouldn't mind getting suffering through a curable Oregon Trail disease if it were the result of consuming delicious food.

Speaking of oysters, since it's not too early to be thinking about your (American) Thanksgiving menu, has anyone done an oyster stuffing/dressing? I probably won't this year, but I can be convinced otherwise.

Nice

What was your overall impression of Bourbon Street ? I have never been there before, but have considered going multiple times.

Basically it's somewhere fun to go if all you want to do is drink and eat. That was the purpose of our trip--it was a bachelor party--and it served our purpose well. I have no knowledge of the areas outside Bourbon Street because we spent almost all of our time there. I'm sure NOLA has lots to offer in high cuisine, arts, culture, history, etc., but I do not pretend to know anything about that stuff in NOLA. I did get to walk through Harrah's briefly--I wasn't going to waste any time playing cards there with only a long weekend to enjoy the city--and it looked like it had a decent poker room that is more or less integrated with the rest of the casino being separated by only a waist-high rail along the main walkway. Prime for walk-by traffic.

As for Bourbon Street itself, the only negative thing I can say about it is there are portions that smell bad. And I mean REALLY bad. But those pass and you're left with an expanse of fun and affordable restaurants, bars, clubs, and strip clubs full of friendly people, live music, and cheap beer.

So my advice is get a hotel somewhere near Bourbon Street, walk around, talk to people, and eat and drink to your heart's content. It's a great long weekend escape destination.

For anyone who is going to be eating at a casino or in the areas immediately surrounding a casino, you'll probably want to check out the Poker Venues and Regional Communities subforums of B&M. There's a good amount of food discussion in them.

I have some black tiger prawns 6/8 size what can I do with them?
With praws I usually use them for rolls or thai curries but with these I want to do something that keeps them more prominent if that makes sense.

Subscribing.

I've been trying to make something new (to me) on the weekends. Last weekend I made ham with white beans and it turned out fantastic. Never been a huge bean person but it was super good. I think I'm going to try to make the spicy beans recipe from the Pioneer Woman site this weekend, especially if I can get any of the vegetables locally.

I was at a Halloween party for an Asian organization this weekend. It was a potluck lunch with lots of kiddies in costumes. I didn't bring anything but just dropped by when I was told about it after it started. Mixed in with standard Asian dishes like noodles were a platter of subs from Cousins, a pizza from Little Caesars, and a box of donuts.

I was thinking about starting a thread for Bolognese sauces, but wasn't sure if that would steal thunder from the mega sauce thread. I have a few different bologneses including ones with milk reductions and ones with jimmy dean breakfast sausage(I had no ground pork, it turned out nice)

This is all speculation right now though because it would involve me writing down all the recipes and I am quite lazy. Also if Im being really honest its more likely just an elaborate plot to get people like crash and snipe to reveal their bolognese recipes.

Good idea for a sub-forum. Is there going to be threads for soups, chicken, beef dishes, recommended recipes etc?

tastespotting is a pretty good resource for finding new things to try out.

I'm trying not to start a dozen threads at once. Now that we have sidebar, I can start letting them trickle in. It won't be earlier than 2013 before I unleash a game theoretical analysis of optimal buffet strategy. Hope this FaD lasts that long.
