lol I have a lot to answer to in this thread. Sorry I'm a little behind and apologize to Faux Pas for being really late to back up and answer his recommendation question about Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon with Nathan Baesel. Another extremely unique and clever film with a script that's full of humor and homage. It's a love letter to the slasher sub genre. Highly recommended, here's my short netflix review that remains on the top after all these years so I'm guessing that the short and sweet of it managed to capture the essense, I guess:
Wow! That's one thing I can say about Nathan Baesel's performance. I loved this movie. Clever and funny and packed with strong performances overall. Nice to see old pro's like Wilson and Englund, and in the same movie no less. This is a mockumentary, spoof, homage that then morphs into a slasher movie. Script, acting, direction and production values all fell into place to make this a unique film. See what it takes to make a horror movie icon like Mike, Jason or Freddy. If you even remotely like this genre you should see this. If you love the genre, this is a must see!
btw as per the humble request of Mr. Wookie, Leslie Vernon is not on instant watch but you can rent the disc from netflix. I will try to make sure if anything I recommend is on instant watch, I'll link it here. I can tell you that as far as I know, all the French and Italian recommendations are not on instant watch at this time but netflix has all of these discs to rent.
I hope not Holy Wall of Text by the time I'm through here but sorry if it does.
Lastcardcharlie! Thank you, that was really sweet of you.
Splice was an interesting sci-fi but I was aware when I saw it at the theater that it wasn't horror so my expectations were properly set to enjoy an oddball sci-fi. Better yet kids, if you like sci-fi paired up with horror a really recent film that I highly recommend that mixes genres quite nicely is Pandorum with Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid and whatdoyaknow? It's on Instant and here's your link:

My netflix short review for Pandorum:
Well this is a pretty tense, suspenseful and highly entertaining flick! I had a great time viewing this mysterious, edge of your seat, claustrophobia inducing tale that has a kind of Aliens meets The Descent feel. This also has serious mystery and plotting to go along with all of the edge of your seat action. A little gore and let me tell ya, what's on the ship will creep you out. Warning ahead though, people that don't care for that blue lighting and quick cuts may get annoyed but I sure didn't. To me, once you get used to the blue and steel hue with lots of dark shadows and blackness, you'll find your eyes get used to it. That wash actually fits with this film like a glove. You really don't want to know much going into this. I think the less you know the better off you are. Quaid is great in here and Ben Foster even better! This is his flick and he owns this character and this movie. Well done Mr. Foster, I had a good time. Just note that horror fans should enjoy this movie just as much as sci-fi buffs. Really, good times, go see this flick!
I want to address PlayerMVP and his list, was wondering what Hills Have Eyes is that rating for? The original or the Aja's remake? If it's the remake, it happens to be one of the better remakes in existance, imo. Maybe because I thought the original happened to be pretty ripe for a remake. I also really dug The Hills Run Red, I liked the look of the villain in that film, he's creepy with that cracked up doll face! It's not an extraordinary or anything but it's kind of a cool indie. The only one on your list that I really didn't like at all was Sorority Row but that's probably because it's a remake that I found not nearly as entertaining, creepy or cool as the original House on Sorority Row:

Sor here's a cool recommend for PlayerMVP, not friends going on vacation but a couple on vacation, it also falls into the killer kids sub genre but let me just say....it's f'n brutal folks. Eden Lake is a film from across the pond and I happen to love those Brits for their contribution to this genre and sorry it's not on instant but netflix does have the disc for rent.

Netflix review for Eden Lake: Wow! This may be one of the more cruel, mean, realistic and well written horror movies I've viewed in a long time. It's also beautifully filmed and amazingly well acted. Performances across the board were fantastic but where did they find these amazing kids? Jack O'Connell I believe is the head gang leader and he's truly frightening. Forget whatever you think you may know about this film going into it. You will still be surprised by the time it's over. Not only will you be surprised but you'll be depressed and sickened by the behavior that was presented to you via this film. This is very realistic but don't expect the usual revenge. This is survival at its most real and torture at its most devastating. I can't recommend this horrific ordeal from across the pond enough to horror fans. Beware for others, there is torture in this movie and it's also done in a very real fashion. What makes this film different is the intelligence in the characters and the writing. This isn't the stupid, predictable girl runs and trips and gets caught kind of film. You simply have to see it to believe it. It's different. Harsh as hell but very different. It will take you through various rounds of emotions and it will spit you out at the end, all chewed up and raw! Horror fans rejoice in the intelligence of Eden Lake. Betcha you won't want to go camping anytime to soon.
Sorry I seem to start a lot of my reviews with Wow! lol just noticed but apparently I can't help myself when I find something unique!
This post is gonna suck for you guys I think, I guess I'll see when I post and again, sorry for Holy Wall of Text!
