Well, Heston only worked on one film with Welles, and he may have thought differently had he been on the set of Ambersons. And even on that one film that Heston worked on, the studio still had problems with Welles, which inspired him to whip off a fifty-eight page "memo" after seeing what they had done to his film. Had I world enough and time, I'd give Welles a boatload of money and tell him to go off and make whatever he wanted to, but I'm not sure I'd do this if I were running a film studio--or even drafting one.

Hey! Who told you my strategy?
That's the great thing about a fantasy draft - it's a fantasy. If this were a real studio I'd grab
Spoiler:
But in reality, he's not even allowed in my house.

Re: Hollywood Studio draft thingy

I pick Jack...

I picked him before in one of these things, but since then after exploring more of his work, my appreciation for him improved tenfold.

There is an actor or two, who I feel are on the same level as Jack. One may even be better suited to build a studio for the purposes of this draft, but I think I am going somewhere with this. I am looking to build a certain identity and pretty sure quality directors will still be available next round, while excellent actors, with strong careers, really wide acting range, who are cool as **** are pretty rare.

Jack has a powerhouse personality and is a great all around actor. He is an iconic anti-hero and a superb villain. He is great in thrillers, comedy and melodramas. He can work with a random Hollywood director, or with someone like Kubrick, or a with foreign auteur. He can be the focal point of an entire movie, but still make his costars better (Each one of the films for which he has won an Oscar has also won Best Actress in a Leading Role). Plus he was not afraid of taking supporting roles (He is one of only a few actors to win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar after winning a Best Actor Oscar). Just an amazing asset to build a studio around.

Jack had a late start to his prominence (in my studio he will be a lead much early), but look at his peak...

The Shooting
Easy Rider
Five Easy Pieces
The King of Marvin Gardens
The Last Detail
Chinatown
The Passenger
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Shining
Reds

That's just an amazing collection of movies, all of which were elevated by his performances and charisma. There are a bunch more solid movies that I am omitting... and his late career is pretty strong as well. To me Jack is the ultimate link between past and present. Can anyone else think of a modern actor who could have pulled off an iconic role in a movie like Casablanca? The only one that comes to my mind is Jack with his fish eyed stare, which seems to communicate that he has been places and seen a thing or two in his time.

Re: Hollywood Studio draft thingy

Yeah, my strategy is pretty much to take who i love but also make it a viable studio. I want to make both great films and financially successful films in relation to each film's budget.

Re: Hollywood Studio draft thingy

Sorry I'm late guys, but I;ve worked 80 hours in the last 7 days, and haven't been sleeping at home. Things should be opening up for me. I didn't want ot make the same pick, but all the other guys I was hoping would be around are gone, so I'll take the same guy I took in the SE Hollywood Draft. Extensive writeup tomorrow:

Studio Head/Visionary:

Walt Disney
