I watched Hardcore Pawn for about 2-3 seasons then I couldn't take it anymore
about the time they were trying to sell the 2nd store out from under their dad, I was just like "ok, this is ridiculous" - the only thing I was watching this show for was the weird interactions between customers and the staff and those are probably staged
on a side note, every pawn shop I've been to is overpriced as hell - I think they buy at 10% and sell at 95% - jeez

Probably?
They hire crackheads as actors.
On what planet does every customer who walks in the door want to fight the employees?
I wouldn't say Hardcore Pawn is "scripted". Like, I don't think those customers are actors because actors aren't that good. But it's fair to say they are set up to get legitimately angry.
Like they probably know who their hothead customers are (like that stupid wigger). They probably tell them they'll give them $300 for some jewelry then when they get to the counter they have Seth offer him $30, knowing they'll get pissed. Then they can just cut out the parts where the customer goes "You just ****in' told me you'd give me $300!"
After a minute of this crap they probably say "Here, we were just messin', here's an extra hundo for being on TV. Here's $400."
Dana Gould called reality shows "a photo of a drawing of a hologram". Says you're watching people who aren't actors, put into fake "real" situations by people who aren't writers, who are guessing at how you think they would act if it were all real, aka "an amateur production of nothing."
Talking about Pawn Stars, I think IQ-wise it goes Rick>The Old Man>Chumlee>>>>>>>>>Corey.
I mean for ex. like Rick actually knows a lot about American history, but obv there are stuff that he doesn't know so well, like when he was talking about Bob Dylan.
I hate Corey so much and there are good posts in this thread about him. Like he doesn't like The Beatles ffs! Rick must've had him with someone very dumb, that's the only explanation. I mean I'm not saying hating Beatles automatically makes you dumb, there's Scaruffi.
The Old Man and Chumlee are pretty funny, it's like a sitcom.
Except the later seasons have become too much like a sitcom, they're basically acting now.
Pawn Stars was okay the first few times but got old fast. It was like watching reruns of the same episode. Old Man is grumpy, Chumlee is dumb, Rick has the same mannerisms in every back-room explanation, the experts and negotiation parts are pretty consistent.
