The joke I laughed most at was one nobody else did:

Spoiler:
He did it!

The only moment I went "ehhhh..." at was

Spoiler:
when Pratt leaps out of the pod to rescue Saldana from space death.

That character moment hadn't yet been earned. But good enough to just go with it.

Saw this last night and absolutely loved it. I saw it in IMAX 3D and it looked amazing.

Not sure what you mean by this. Imax or 3D? probably not, there wasn't many 'oooh that was a good 3d moment' moments

also to the comment above, yea I was groaning at the 'space walk' scene too.

Hey look guys, I'm just gonna jump outta my space ship, take off my mask, hold my breath and wait to be rescued. Oh I'm back in a ship now? I can breath phew. All is better.

Like should I care to see it at a 'good' theatre or any theatre will do?

probably any theatre will do. I mean I only see Marvel movies in VIP 3D cinemas (19+, bar service, assigned seating, lazy-boy chairs etc.) but any theatre should be fine, as long as it's....safe

ok last question about this.

i don't like superhero/str8 action films.
fell asleep in avengers, thought ironman was boring, gave up on batman 30mins in and never bothered with spiderman. i liked the nolan batman series but other than that just not a fan.

is this movie good period, or is it great for a superhero movie?

Agreed.
I loved it though.
I'm always curious as to how a movie can still be funny nowadays since so much has been explored already. This movie managed to be very funny in an original way imo.

If I had to make a complaint about it, is that it seems it was made for people who know the comics. things like the collector's room, thanos and rhonan (?).
the only thing I know about them is that they are somewhat connected to the avengers movies.

even though thanos and the collector have been introduced in other marvel movies mid credits scenes, you don't really need to know anything about them. Guardians explains everything you need to know; Ronan is a Kree Radical, collecting an infinity gem for Thanos so that he'll destroy Xandar and collector is also collecting them

Enjoyed it a lot last night. Good movie.

"That was my favourite knife." Had me rolling.

Agree that Bautista stole the show for me at least. Easy writing for him but he executed and his lines were hilarious. "Nothing goes over my head. I would catch it, my reflexes are too quick."

Pretty good. Moved right along, engaging characters, decent effects. Entertaining.

Entertaining movie...not a classic by any means, though. Not sure why everyone is going nuts over it. I liked Groot and the raccoon.

I think people are going on about it because it defied their expectations quite a bit. Many of my friends and my parents, for instance, came out of the theater saying it was pretty different from what they had envisioned, and that this was a VERY good thing. For my part, I just didn't think it would be all that good. Given the mass proliferation of Marvel films in recent years, I figured that we might be due for a movie in the Marvel cinematic universe that simply fails on all levels, and Guardians seemed prime for just that fail (Gunn seemed like an unproven element as a writer/director, D-list Marvel characters, etc). Instead this one was critically the best received since the MCU started up with Favreau's original Iron Man in 2008. It isn't a classic, but it was a pleasant surprise.

So we're now praising movies for not sucking now?

Not at all. I concede it isn't a classic, but it was still very entertaining, all the more so because it subverted expectations.

How can it instantly become a classic? It takes a few years to pass where you remember a movie fondly for becoming a classic doesn't it?

Btw...I loved the movie. Bautista was indeed a surprise

This

imo the definition of classic is a movie that is remembered when (most) other movies from that time period are forgotten

imo Lord of The Rings are still 5-10 years away from becoming 'classics'

Avengers will most certainly become a classic in the next few decades. Doubt any other MCU phase I or II movie will. Doesn't mean they all suck, in fact they're among my favourite movies, just that when all the dust settles, I bet only Avengers I, II and III will be the lone standouts

Question - when Drax calls Gamora a whore, is that a mess up? Technically he wants to insult her by implying she's a loose woman but she's never exchanged money for sex.

I suppose what I meant to say then was that GOTG is unlikely to become a classic. But then again, a ton of films aren't treated well critically initially and then end up being considered classic films nonetheless.

lol, guaranteed classic. One of the best kiddie movies of the 2010s!
