too much meat for those to be just the back straps from that doe. you got a nuclear reactor nearby making everything grow by you or what..
i am starting to feel inadequate in my part of the state.
When I say back strap or chop I am talking about the muscles running on the outside of the ribs along the spine. The tenderloins are much smaller and are located on the inside of the ribs inside the chest cavity. The meat pictured is from the larger outside muscle.

i know the difference between the two. yours in the picture look way too big for a does back straps. but i see they are indeed them.
the loins are the best part with the back straps second. the rest of the deer can be burger as far as i am concerned. although the steaks are good but not so much for me. and i dont like roasts.

I tend to agree that the Straps are the best part and many times have just ground the rest.
Damn whitetail does can certainly be tricky little buggers. I have a spot where I have seen them a few time and have gone in looking a few times. Last night I had a plan, wind was going to be good/calm and I had seen them 2 days ago again in the same spot. Had a plan laid in and changed it up to go further in to try to see more ground when I thought they were coming from. I was wrong. They came out right where I originally was going to set up and there were a few trees in the way where I could not get a shot off quick enough. Snuck up and tried to head them off since they were just feeding their way along and couldn't find them up to the end of shooting time. So, I snuck out and got int he truck. Had to drive by there to leave and by gosh they came out of the trees right where I had just walked down and crossed the road right in front of me. Tricky little buggers!!!
I am going back tonight and will give it another try. Then tomorrow I am making the drive a ways south to hunt public land off of forest service where i can take elk.
Next week my oldest comes out who has never hunted. Looks likethings may e starting to rut so hopefully it is going well by the time he is here.
yesterday i had a new herd of about ten or so elk on my place. they were in one of my meadows then moved into the woods thankfully as i didnt want them spooked over to someone who would shoot them. one good bull.
not too many elk come around in the river valley, but a few small herds around. i hate to see them instantly shot out.

Always nice to see elk in my book. I know what you mean too. I have a Mule deer doe tag and could have filled it about 200 times already and just do not know if I care to do it. I know they have recovered a lot from two years ago but it is hard to get used to the idea that they are all the way back.
Got my Buck!!! Nice public land 5X5 Mule Deer. My oldest son was hunting with me along with a friend of his from California. He shot at this one until he emptied his gun and I couldn't hold out any longer.
In the truck. Yes, I carry far too much junk with me.
you are in a good area for big game there. my hunting was a favorite over on the east side where the woods are more open. and the east side has so much more game and diversity of different species.
Yep, I feel really fortunate to be so close to such good hunting with a lot of public land available. The place where my son's friend got his deer is only about 7.5 miles from my house. Where I got my 2nd Whitetail doe is just the other side of that hill as well. Where my youngest son got his first elk and where we got several elk in the following years is within a few miles of that location.
You are right about the rain. Although we did have a very wet Fall and everything is really nice and green right now. Not like the rainforest over there but really nice for us.
right now looking out my front window i have a cock pheasant walking around, a bunch of turkeys, and a few deer. and the river is about twice as high as normal for this time of the year.
i havent seen the elk in 2 days and i guess they moved on.
Got myself a northern Michigan doe yesterday morning. About 75 yards out, just after day break. Weekend at camp was great although the weather was strange. 70 degrees on Friday and then 27 on Saturday with 3 inches of snow
the rut is on and i have a bunch of 3,4, and 5, point (meaning points on each side, thats western count) bucks around my house all day and night chasing the does around.
