I took the Central test and got 32 right. Not good enough, I guess...but I agree that 15 seconds goes by in a hurry.

What pisses me off is the level of difficulty of some of the topics isn't the same.

For example, if you watched any sports within the last year (and I mean any sports), you know easily that the New England Patriots had an undefeated season. The LeBron James and "eagle" answers are a couple other examples of dead giveaway sports questions.

However, one could know a heck of a lot about symphonies and still not know that Mozart's 42nd symphony was named after Jupiter.

No. If you know even a little about symphonies, then you'd get this one right.

True, but this is Mozart's best known symphony. A hard symphony question would be Haydn's 101st symphony is known also known as this common household item.

Did anyone ever get a call back?

I just found out that an old cow-orker of mine went in for tryouts yesterday and is now in the contestant pool. He is, as a friend of mine put it, "scary smart."

I guess this means that I didn't cut the mustard. Oh well, maybe next year.

Do you have to answer in the form of a question, e.g. who/what is?

Nope. You only have iirc 15 seconds for each response, and it's bang, bang, bang. No, you don't have to answer in the form of a question.

As far as 60-year old men with grey hair go, I think Alex is pretty good looking. He's always dressed so nicely!

Always wanted to try this but never have. Maybe I'll try it this year. I do well when watching the show, and always destroy friends or whatever who look at me with a surprised look. But being on the actual show, with negative points for wrong answers, and having to click that thing, and just being nervous... that's an entirely different story.

give it a try. the online test is far far harder than watching the show, though. you only get the 15 seconds to process the question (and the category, if you even remember to use it), think of the answer, and type it in. unlike the show, categories are totally random and are not continuous at all, so unless you just get a bunch of answers you know the questions to, it's a lot harder to get a good rhythm going.

Also, the tryout questions have less of a "clue" element in them.

For example, from last nights show:

Category: SIDEKICKS
Question: Smee, a sidekick of this handicaptain, had a cutlass named "Johnny Corkscrew"
Answer: Who is Captain Hook.

But from the online quiz, the question might be:

Category: Sidekicks
Question: Who was the first mate of Captain Hook.
