Dark comedy with lots of twists and turns but overall enjoyable and funny!

The Duellists (Ridley Scott)
Set during the grand, sweeping Napoleonic age, an officer in the French army insults another officer and sets off a life-long enmity. The two officers, D'Hubert and Feraud, cross swords time and time again in an attempt to achieve justice and preserve their honor.

Absolutely incredible.

Just looked it up and it won an award for Best British Independent Film, so might not be as obscure as I thought, but nobody I've spoken to in the states has seen it.
Dead Mans Shoes is by the same director, and is even better. May be the greatest vigilante movie made.

I remember being really excited by this premise but disappointed the execution (ha, no pun intended). For a film about a high-stakes underground Russian roulette tournament, it certainly wasn't very suspenseful...imo. I heard they were going to do an American re-make but don't know whatever became of that.

An interconnected storyline of hyper realistic life in Mexico City... just a superb Film!
Does that make Alejandro González Iñárritu a metteur en scene?

They did, kind of. This one with Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Michael Shannon, Ray Winstone, Forrest Griffin, and Gaby Hoffman: 13

Looks like the same director though, just updated with a more familiar faced cast.

I always loose it at the end when they show the real sisters... there is just no way not to cry at that point.

The Color of Paradise
Beautiful melodramatic tear-jerker that's never cheesy or overly sentimental. Just a really great movie.

I think I'm prejudiced. I have an aversion to almost all Middle Eastern movies.
