Meh, I don't like her live stuff, but if you are into it, take a look. If anyone is able to find some recorded stuff, please post it.

heh, what made you laugh about the otep stuff? just not your thing or it seems like a novelty act? if you like that kind of metal (heavyish nu-metal) then its quite good (not great) but i figured it was gonna be different than anything else in this thread...

haven't had a chance to check out the links you posted before cuz they seem nsfw and im not taking a chance...

if people like the nightwish/epica style check out within temptation, lacuna coil, autumn, madder mortum, after forever, leaves eyes...tons of female fronted metal groups...

The scream made me laugh, and her attitude. Hell of a woman!

Nu Metal sucks. I am old enough, and been to enough underground clubs, to know about the real thing. Used to wear all black and bleach my hair. These days, I can still stand some industrial. But lets be honest: No matter how much you love being "wet down" at a Gwar concert, and love their shirts, you would never buy a CD.

I started catching up to the latest posts in this thread, and, just like that, a particular song came to mind.

Care to guess what it was??!!

I began rummaging through the old memories surrounding this particular song (an old friend had a brief fling with Baez way back when) so I "U-Tubed" and and had just finished listening to it when I got to your post.

Oh gross - I was putting together a big Regina Spektor post and it got deleted. Whatever, I'll do it again, this time more concise. Before that, however, let me share a discovery with you nice folks. Here's someone I randomly stumbled upon (in fact, I thought I knew her name from this thread, but I just checked and that's not true, so who knows).

Kate Nash

Her debut album hasn't even been released in North America yet, but she's been a hit in the UK and on myspace for a while. Very young (born in the same month as me, which I find strangely fascinating), Kate Nash has very quickly went from totally unknown myspace performer to having a #1 album and #2 single in the UK.

That single is "Foundations," which both sounds cool when performed live and has a well done video that made me lol twice. It was such a success that the album's release date was pushed forward more than a month.

Thanks to the magic of YouTube, I've listened to most of this album, titled Made of Bricks. It has its moments, but Nash is still clearly a beginning artist. Half the time she sounds like Lily Allen, as in the clip above, and half the time she sounds like Regina Spektor (see here, and please listen to the whole song if you listen at all). Both are interesting, but it's hard to see through to Nash's personality. I know that's kinda the point, but it's not completely satisfying.

I'm very surprised that she can pull off the things she does in some of those songs, though. Definitely some talent and intelligence there, and definitely someone I'll be paying attention to in the future.

Cassandra Wilson... a 21st Century Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughn all rolled into one. Each of her albums is stylistically unique. Just try her, you'll like her.

I HATE (most) music by Sarah Mclachlan.

I know that there are some fans out there. I do like one album by her, called Bloom. It is a re-mix album featuring Will-I-Am, Junior Boys, etc. I just read some reviews, and they all seem to agree that it is only for the most hard-core Mclachlan fan. I find this fascinating.

For those who adore her, do you have this album? What do you think of it?

Sorry, but I love her. Solace and Fumbling Towards Ecstasy are fantastic albums. I have not listened to the remix one, though.

There's a McLachlan song at the end of Buffy Season 2 that destroys me every time. Other than that, I don't know anything about her.

I can't believe no mention yet of Kate Bush

A few tidbits -
1. Basically discovered by Floyd's Dave Gilmour who paid for her first demos and recommended EMI pick her up and the rest is history.
2. First female to ever have a number one song in the UK that was self penned
3. Style is all over the place, but basically female brit prog rock I suppose.
4. Tori Amos pretty much owes her entire career to her -

wow, I loooooove Kate bush...nice choice. I used to have a gigantic crush on her, too. My favorite is probably Hounds of Love. Aeriel was a great comeback
