I once heard on the radio that married men live longer than unmarried men, while married women died younger than unmarried women. I'm sure this was utterly unscientific, but if true, perhaps food has something to do with it. Men end up eating healthier than frozen dinners and women end up with steaks and fries because yeah, no man is going to join her for vegan pizza every night.

Everything as you get older revolves around family and food, and it's a hard thing to constantly say no to. Some people are naturally thin and just eat less, but for the majority of us, pass the strawberry cheesecake.
Eh I don't know. Young singles have Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner with family just like fat middle-aged married folks do. Young singles go out to eat, probably more than married folks.

The difference is that young singles still care about their appearance because they are still looking to hook up with the opposite sex. It takes a lot more discipline to stay in shape when you know you're not going to get sex with anyone new out of it. That's the reason when married men suddenly start working out and taking care of themselves, it's often a red flag that an affair is going on.

The only, or main, reason I'm in shape is that I'm not married and I want to hook up?

I'm hoping that whomever I marry is active... not because she wants to hook up with men, but because she'd be bored sitting around.

Indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats.

No doubt, I think that has something to do with it. So I agree with you in part. But I will tell you, the constant food and activity that involves food makes things really hard to control. I can't tell you how many times I've sat and had dinner with my family even though I didn't want to just so we spend that time together. Those calories add up over time. Went to a friend's child's first birthday party yesterday (he throws great parties) and am currently on a diet, and had the largest meal I've had in weeks. Beer, wine, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, Mac and Cheese, home made chocolate chip cookies, cake, coffee. Ugh, it was just too hard to say no.

Sure but she's in the minority if you find a woman like that. Go to the mall and look around.

I admire this and think that one day I will actually get to this point. I've changed a lot of my habits over the years and have surprised even myself. I'm intrigued by your challenge. Ice cream would be the hardest thing to give up imo.

I did enjoy me some ice cream back in the day. I sometimes ate a whole pint of Chunky Monkey or Haagen-Dazs chocolate chocolate chip all by myself.

I think I went for an extremely long time not eating sweets when I was in my 20s. Maybe something like 10 years of not eating them. When I got into my 30s I started enjoying some extravagant dinners that were a fixed amount of courses, and cheese/dessert courses were at the end. Being that I already paid for them and declining didn't save me any money, I did try them, and it changed my opinion of them.

Creme Brulee is truly a magnificent thing.

I'm in my late 20s, and I don't really have a sweet tooth anymore. It wasn't a conscious thing, just found myself eating less sweet stuff, and the less I ate, the more sickly I found it when I did eat it.

Like you said, though, a good desert occasionally is still nice, and I can enjoy a little something with a coffee. Mainly I just gorge myself on cheese now instead...

It might be biological or something, losing your taste for sweets as you age. But I'm no scientist.

Moderation and portion size. It's not hard. I turn down food all the time.

For me it was easier to lose weight. It was connected with a lot less pain and sacrifice than changing some of my values.

However I totally admit that when value system is changed and weight is lost, it is no effort to stay with new value system, but it cost some effort not to start gaining again. So in this sense you are right. After the transformation it is easier to stay with new value system than to stay with new weight.
Good points.

Stop bragging, skinny guy.

Used to eat ice cream all the time as well. I then ended up moving to places where keeping frozen food wasn't possible. A few years of that kind of killed my constant urge for ice cream.
