LOL at that trailer hard. Linda West at 1:21 "[outraged tone]her curse is is that she has to look like me!" Lady, looking like you is a curse. And it's only partially due to being morbidly obese.

I agree. It's a big mistake to confuse "fashion industry wants me to be unrealistically underweight" and "my doctor says I should lose some weight".

Yeah I don't get that either. I can understand an Amy Schumer type taking issue with what the fashion industry does, but when you're 50+ lbs away you're nowhere near that standard

Do you ice cream truck guys get excited because of the rarity?

Ice cream truck comes down our street every day in the summer and most weekends.

My inner 8 yo still notices, but I reckon it'd be more intense if it were something rare.

I lost my taste for sweets in the late 90s.

Ice cream truck? Nah. I get happy when young, attractive chicks flirt with me because I've kept myself in great shape.

You get used to that when it happens a few times a day.

I like how 95% of the people in that trailer saying it's ok to be fat are fat themselves. Fat is not healthy. Fat is not attractive. It rarely has to do with genetics and mostly has to do with people and their poor life decisions. You can't get to be 300 lbs and maintain that weight living a healthy life style.

I'm a big fan (no pun intended) of the show "My 600lb Life" though.

I went to a burlesque show last night. Half of the performers were skinny to maybe carrying a few extra while the other half were legitimately morbidly obese (probably over 300 lbs, seemed to have some mobility/conditioning issues).

On the one hand, I sort of admired the courage that it took for the obese women to subject themselves to public judgment in order to do something they clearly enjoyed. On the other hand, I can't say that I wasn't a bit disgusted by their bodies.

Went to the gym first thing this morning, obv...

Was this burlesque show something out on by a school or charity group or something you had to pay for?

I paid for it. Didn't do much research before the show, but tickets were like $10, and a bunch of friends were going, so I figured it was worth giving it a go.

A bit of the fat shaming here is unfair. While some people do bring it upon themselves, others have to fight genetics as well as their desire for food.

On the other hand, people like myself are bound to medications that cause weight gain. I was a bean pole before I had to take anticonvulsants to control my epilepsy.

Right now, I'm 6'2", 215 lbs. Sure, I'm overweight but that's expected. When I was on different medications, I was over 260 pounds and I never felt worse. Seriously, I don't know how people deal with being that big or even bigger. I was so incredibly uncomfortable and unhealthy. It was sickening.

Who is shaming? I don't think anyone thinks you should be ashamed of yourself. Just don't say that being overweight is just as healthy as normal weight or insist that you're as beautiful as a fit model.

Yeah the fatties who say they are healthy because one time a doctor told them their cholesterol and blood pressure numbers were normal are the worst. Those people deserve scorn. I guess they think their joints aren't being permanently damaged every time they take a big fat step.

I think the worst is the people who say you can't look at someone and tell if they're healthy because you can't know if they have cancer (woman literally said that in the trailer).

Does she think you can tell if fatties have cancer?

You don't know if either has cancer but at least you know the non-fatty isn't a fatty.

Wasn't there some research recently that suggested overweight/active has lower mortality rates than normal/active?
Fat People: Disgust and Social Stigma Quote

Isn't the mortality rate for everyone 100%? Do you mean fatties live longer?

I found this study, but there was a more recent one that confirmed it I think.
