Uhm I disagree with the above poster.

But what they seem to be advocating is that being obese should be considered totally normal and maybe even something to take pride in. It isn't, this kind of obesity will lead to all sorts of health problems. This woman has an elevated risk for developing diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.

Well I try to stick to "fat acceptance" as a middle ground between "fat shaming" and "fat pride".

If you want to lose weight, I'm happy to give advice and support.

If you want to know why you should lose weight, I'm happy to explain.

If you know you should lose weight but it's not gonna happen in the foreseeable future, I can accept that and move past it. Social costs, whatever. People cost other people money in all sorts of ways.

If you're "fat and damn proud of it" we most likely part ways at that point.

What BustoPro said.

Fat shaming / bullying etc is obviously terrible and also not constructive. But taking pride in being morbidly obese is just wrong.

There are rules against child abuse and spousal abuse (as well as battery chargers against other people in general) but I can't think of a rule against abusing your own body. Maybe there should be one. If you are 750 pounds and seen eating a cheesecake you can be arrested for self-abuse.

Probably a super stupid thought (taking away freedom usually sucks) and I just thought about it but seriously why are people allowed to publicly abuse their person without recourse? As goose said, it's a gigantic (no pun intended) net negative. Especially if they have small children and are either a) going to die while their kids are still dependent or b) going to pass on these terrible body-abusing eating habits to ignorant kids

Some people want a Fat Tax. Not sure how that would work. I guess if you go to a doctor and they weigh you, and you are over 3 and a half bills and under 7 and a half feet tall, then the doctor is required to file a form with the IRS stating your weight. If you lose the weight by the end of the year and can prove it then you maybe stave off the penalty.

Suicide isn't illegal in most states anymore. It used to be a felony to attempt suicide. Slow suicide by cheesecake shouldn't be treated any differently than a jumper in intention, but there isn't the sense of urgency with the cheesecake and a 72 hour psych hold, for example, probably isn't appropriate with the cheesecake eater while it is with the jumper.

Interestingly, I see a lot of elderly smokers. I see very few elderly obese people. Maybe that is because the obesity generation hasn't gotten old yet, and that will change over the next 25 years. Or maybe fat people die earlier than smokers. I don't know.

#thighgap abusers tho

Technically there is a "hidden" tax in life insurance if you are a fatty. You will pay a higher premium for life insurance if you are obese.

But yeah that's not really punishment enough. People who weigh 700 pounds aren't bastions of normalcy and likely don't gaf about life insurance.

I think old fat people generally can't leave the house.

IDK as far as social policy I think the government should stick to "nudges" instead of draconian laws or substantial monetary incentives.

Michelle Obama has made childhood obesity a focus of her "administration" and made some progress although the programs are far from perfect.

Pretty sure Michelle Obama didn't pick out the menus. Pretty sure dieticians did. But don't let that stop your "Michelle Obama can't tell my kids what to eat!" talking point.

How much do you weigh btw Kioshk?

Interesting trailer for a new film. Evidently this is becoming a huge issue! Reddit outlawed their anti-fatties thread, for instance.

Jack Sprat would eat no fat
His wife would eat no lean
And so, betwixt the two of them

I was wondering, do you guys still get happy when an ice cream van comes round? I know I do.

Are you kidding? If I hear the jingle of an ice cream truck, I immediately become 8 years old and get all stressed as if I don't have a dollar.

That trailer is ridiculous. It is not healthy to be fat. Period.
