I'm a compulsive smoker. In the last 6 months I have smoked so much I can't breath properly. I've been asthmatic all my life. I'm 34, and smoked since I was 14. In December I quit my job to play poker, and since then my (weed) smoking has increased to an 8th a day MINIMUM. The horrific cost of this (£300+ a month) is not whats bothering me, it's that I get out of breath just walking down the stairs. To look at me you wouldn't know it, I'm 6 foot, reasonably well built, but slim. I bet half the fatties berated in here are fitter than me now. I'm killing myself. I know it, but holy **** weed is hard to quit. I also get through about 15g of tobacco every day. I chain smoke fat 3 skinners.

I have actually moved to my Mums house for a week (Here right now) just to not have access to weed.

The stupid thing is I'm raiding my Dad's whisky collection, to replace the weed hit I'm missing. - So not sure this plan has worked very well..

I'm lucky I guess that my metabolism is proficient because I eat **** all day. Maccy Dees is 3/5 meals a week. It's bad I know. But I'm not, and doubt will ever be over weight. Health wise tho, I'm in worse shape that 99% of all the fatties.

Fatness is an aesthetic issue that society has deemed to be unattractive. Which I unashamedly endorse.

Although those fatties on pornhub to go some...

I'm 5'11" 219 pounds and not terrible out-of-shape (can hike mountains, ski, etc.) yet definitely bordering on fat. Certainly 30 pounds overweight at a minimum.

The other day I was picking up my Thai food. The lady behind the counter said to me... unsolicited mind you... "You're not too thin but also not overweight. Looks good." Uhh, thanks? thanks for the unsolicited comment on how I look. For your information, Lady, the look I was going for WAS "Too Thin." What are you implying, that I'm a big boned girl? I suppose it was meant as a compliment but do you see how it messes with my mind? Insecure am I. I'm still thinking about it and it's been like 2 days. I mean wth with people commenting on how other people look when they are just picking up their Thai food.

haha, most awkward attempt at a compliment ever.

A checker at my gas station recently told me I was good looking for an old guy. She's literally in high school.

Yeah, I hear you, Katy. People can definitely be awkward when it comes to complimenting you on weight loss. I've gotten my fair share of late now that people are noticing me 30 lbs skinnier, things like, "Have you been, like, doing things?" Well, things like what? Crack?

Not to brag, but I'm not fat at all.

People at work has been telling me that I should consider eating more often. They see me eat at work every day and assume I starve myself. The girl in my department said "He never eats!" as I'm sitting right there eating a blueberry muffin.

So yeah, thin people get comments as well.

katy I wouldn't worry about it. Was she from another culture? "Looks good." sounds like something a non-American says. Chalk it up to being lost in translation.

People say stupid ****. I've been called "ma'am" in the grocery line while rocking a full beard. People just don't pay attention. It's awkward but then I realize they probably feel more embarrassed than I do.

Our friends across the street (our toddlers were born 4 months apart and they play together)... the mom got pretty damn big during the pregnancy and after it. We didn't see her outside often then starting a few months ago she was outside all the time wearing yoga clothes and stuff and looking thinner and made-up. I think she worked very hard to get her body back. My wife and I were talking about it and I told her she's probably waiting for her to tell her she looks great (my wife isn't the mushy type). I said I would have told her she looked good but then I said there is almost no way for a guy to compliment a woman "looking great". Because it implies that she used to look like a house. And you have no idea how she'll take it (zomg did I used to look like a house? zomg he noticed I'm smaller now!?). So I literally will not even mention it at all to her - even though I'm almost certain she is the type who wants to hear the compliments.

People who comment on other people's eating habits are the worst. I don't understand this at all. My wife gets this **** at work all the time. She's not overweight but apparently she "eats a lot" as per the other teachers. She said she gets 'omg you eat a lot!' comments like every week. From the same people who are her friends. She does have a good metabolism so I can see where they are coming from but sheesh she says it drives her nuts hearing the same dumb comments all the time.

I can't remember ever telling someone they eat a lot or a little. It's none of my ****ing business. And when I'm eating I'm focusing on my own food - I don't give a **** how much or little you are eating across from me.

If someone kept pestering me about how much I was eating I'd probably throw my sandwich down and go "Alright - you tell me what the **** you want me to eat..." while giving them a look like they're about to get a first in their snout.

My 2¢

Alcoholism is a much bigger problem than obesity.

Do you mean in terms of people looking down on alcoholics and judging them harshly or are you talking about long term health consequences?

This is not true and it is ridiculous. Maybe it was as true in India one day in the past as it was in America one day in the past. But the major cities in India are as cosmopolitan as other major cities around the globe and people are obsessed with working out and looking good. Being fit and active helps you look successful just like it is here.

I do agree with others who said obesity is much more looked down upon on woman than it is on men. I know a number of obese men who are successful professionally but few people want to be around obese women.

If you live in a major city you don't see the obesity problem so much but if you go down south especially it is amazing how fat people are. Just loads and loads of lazy fat people walking slowly and eating cheap fast food. The obesity rates in the south and some of the midwest really skew the national averages.

Could be. Been 20 years since I was there and times are changing, apparently.

Poverty in India is widespread—in 2014, the World Bank reported that 11.8% of all people in India fall below the international poverty line of US$ 1.25 per day (PPP). Over the last decade, poverty has witnessed a consistent decline with the levels dropping from 37.2% in 2004-05 to 29.8% in 2009-10 and 21.9% in 2012 to 11.8% in 2014. The number of poor is now estimated at 148 million in 2014 as compare to 396 million in 2004-05. According to the Planning Commission of India, poverty in India declined to a record 21% in 2011-12. In 2012 the total number of people below the poverty line was estimated to be 250 million, but more recent surveys by the World Bank in 2014 give a figure of 148 million people.

Still, $1.25 a day isn't much. Are you claiming that it's possible to get fat on $1.25 a day in India?

Alcoholism seems like it would be more fun than obesity, at least part of the time when you're getting the buzz. Probably not a good long-term strategy obv.

Would you settle for British-Indian fusion? Chicken Tikka Masala?

What most Americans think of as Mexican food is really Tex-Mex btw.

Chicken Tikka Masala has been voted the favourite national dish in Britain several times. And that's a fair ranking imo.

This past winter I cut down to 155 from 185-190. At 5'10", I'm pretty happy with my weight/cut and actually working on bulking a little. Today I stopped in to my favorite gas station when I'm on the road to fuel up and grab a bag of chips. I didn't realize that I hadn't been in there without a jacket on since last August (195ish). When I walk in the door, my favorite little hottie that works the counter instantly blurts out "wow you're really looking great, you've lost a ton of weight".

That moment completely foils your plans to buy junk food to carb load because there's no way you can buy chips after someone tells you that.

It's wildly popular here in Cincinnati, too. We love our Indian food here. I eat it at least once a week.
