It was probably unwise to post this. But thank you for the information anyway. Who knows, it may become useful someday when I am pounding down ale in some English watering hole and the cheeky tart that delivers the pints is a Dr. Who fan.

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
Doctor who is way to big of a story for one movie or even three movies
There is no way to do it right
However it could still make money

From above BBC link:
David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, told Variety magazine he is working on developing a feature film with the BBC.
He said the film would take a fresh approach to the show, which first appeared on TV in 1963.
Yates said it would take "two to three years to get it right" as the show needs "quite a radical transformation".
"Russell T Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch," he said.
Yates is reported to be working with the head of LA-based BBC Worldwide Productions, Jane Tranter.
A BBC spokesman said: "A Doctor Who feature film remains in development with BBC Worldwide Productions in Los Angeles.
"The project is unlikely to reach cinemas for several years and as yet there is no script, cast or production crew in place."
Doctor Who began in 1963, and seven actors played the Doctor before the show was dropped in 1989.
After a TV movie in 1996 - starring Paul McGann - the TV series returned in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston in the lead role. David Tennant took over in the same year.
The sixth series of Doctor Who, starring Matt Smith as the Doctor, was broadcast on BBC One earlier this year.

If done right would be great. Wondered why this hasn't been done before. (I'm not counting TV movies).

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
This thread could use a bump. I'm finally almost through the current series... about four episodes to go.
I started with the 2005/Ninth Doctor. Christopher Eccleston was fantastic (sic) and pulled me into the show.
It took me awhile to warm to David Tennant as a result, and especially in Season 4, I felt like there were a lot of dark episodes, a lot of the Doctor just brooding and being pissed and not knowing what to do, so it's my least favorite season. Seeing the Doctor act with confidence is what makes the series tick imo, and you can only do the "I don't know what to do so I'll just sit here and be sad" thing so many times before it loses its punch.
Not faulting Tennant for it, I think he just got written into spots he couldn't really do much with.
The reboot with Matt Smith was a welcome return to the swaggery, wacky hijinks style Doctor that made me like the show in the first place. After being pretty bummed at the switch from Eccleston to Tennant, I expected not to like him, but he won me over almost immediately.
Doctor: "Big day tomorrow."
Amy: "Sorry, what?
Doctor: "It's always a big day tomorrow! We've got a time machine... I skip the little ones."
It also doesn't hurt the show that Karen Gillan is just about the cutest thing on TV.

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
My favorite current running show
Doc who
sons of anarchy
walking dead
south park
beavis and butthead
star trek reruns lol
the only problem with Doctor who is that it's only 12 episodes....
I thought "lets kill hitler" was a good episode... but I also though it was way to fast.
an episode like that could have lasted 2-3 episodes....
and episodes like the rebel flesh and almost people could have been combined to just one episode but I think some of the episodes move too fast. I would rather have 6 amazing stories via 2 parters than 12 rushed stories...
All in all this was my fav season so far.... The season opening 2 parter "impossible astronaut" was epic... I watched it at least 35 times on Tivo I love the silence and watching river song go all clive owen from shootem up

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
Regeneration 1 Series 005 The Keys of Marinus
Rather good story where the Doctor and his companions land on the world Marinus, where a supercomputer once ran everything, but went wrong and was shut down. A scientist has fixed it, but needs the assistance of the visitors to secure 5 keys to start the machine. What follows is a set of contained separate stories as the visitors traverse the world to collect the disks. These range from very good to good, each story holds up quite well – though there’s some weak scenes and the final two episodes are a little overextended, centring on a murder mystery. My favourite is the first substory – where brains in glass jars have mental control over the humanoids in their city, making the visitors think they are in paradise when they are in fact in rundown shabby rooms, until Barbara suddenly sees through it.
I rather liked it overall.

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
Regeneration 1 Series 006 The Aztecs
Some nice touches in this one, with the Doctor and companions landing right in the middle of the Aztec civilization. Barbara gets taken for a reincarnation of a revered high preistess, and starts to declare human sacrifice is unpleasing for the gods. There are power struggles, and the Doctor insisting you cannot and should not interfere with history, and reasonably good set design for such a stagebound, low-budget production, and the lead characters are mostly fine, though some are quite wooden. I also like the part where the Doctor inadvertently gets engaged when he shares drinking cocoa with a woman taken with him, and he indeed feels affection and admiration for her. The final shots in the Aztec kingdom have him put a gift from her down just outside the Tardis, but then pocketing it at the last second before going into the Tardis and leaving.

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
karen gillans hot and has been entertaining but its more enjoyable when they switch companions for me more character development and a different flavor also was disappointing how similar matt smiths version of the dr is to tenants. Still enjoy the show but have lost a small amount of interest over the past season due to this.

I dunno. I always thought Smith was a very different doctor than Tennant. Especially by his last season, Tennant spent most of his time frowning and brooding and the whole thing just had a really serious tone. On the other hand, Smith's doctor is more wacky and just more physical and has a lot more movement.
Tennant's first episode: hand chopped off in stare down with scary alien.
Smith's first episode: scales out of a tipped over tardis soaking wet from the swimming pool. Also gets the line "You're scottish, fry something!"
I'm not saying I dislike Tennant, he seems like a fine actor, he was just written into a corner with some very preachy and serious episodes. Smith's ensemble, on the other hand, gets vampire fish from space and gets to shoot a fez with a laser pistol.
As much as I will hate to see them go though, Rory and Amy probably only have one season left. I just hope they give them a happy ending/good send off. It's always surprised me how dark the removal of old companions is. Rose gets sucked away into another dimension, Martha tours a war torn world then turns into a tough as nails unsmiling military soldier, Donna gets her brain fried and forgets everything....
I'd really rather seem them do a happy send-off for once.
Not sure what I'd want them to do for the next companion. "Girl in love with the doctor" was tired before Martha even showed up, so Donna was a breath of fresh air. Then they added Amy and Rory and that changed the dynamic quite a bit... I really like companions that can give the doctor a run for his money, as opposed to Rose/Martha who were typically either hiding behind the doctor or waiting to be rescued.

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
Regeneration 1 Series 007 The Sensorites 4/10
Here the crew land on a spaceship and think everyone is dead. It turns out they’re not, they’ve been incapacitated, and keep getting incapacitated whenever they try to leave orbit of the planet they’re close to, called The Sense-Sphere. It turns out the inhabitants of this planet, the Sensorites, are afraid because previous humans discovered their planet had huge deposits of molybdenum, and were planning to mine out the planet. However, the Sensorites have psychic abilities and could read their minds. What then follows is a convoluted, unfocussed tale of tribal politics, hidden humans trying to poison the water supply as they imagine themselves at war with the Sensorites, and assorted shennanegins on the spaceship and the planet. It’s a little plodding, and the plot is all over the place, but there’s a really good performance by an actor called Stephen Dartnell (playing ‘John’) who has to convey both terror and confusion as his mind has been turned by the Sensorites. Probably one for the completists.

You'll get a new companion next season at some point unless the doctor goes companionless.

Re: DR WHO APPRECIATION THREAD
Regeneration 1 Series 008 The Reign of Terror aka The French Revolution
The Tardis appears to land in the English countryside, as the Doctor is mad at Ian and Barbara, and wants to return them to their own time. It turns out they are in the France of Robespierre, and indeed we meet both Robespierre and Napoleon during this adventure, and the drama focuses on intrigue and escape (usually from prison cells, but also from the guillotine). Not bad, with some diverse acting and characters.
