Re: Confessions: Get something off of your chest.
this thread is getting good, thanks to you guys (and ladies) for your input so far. Oh and I have been reading this forum for a couple years now and also just realized splendour was a girl a day ago. But now that I think back on some of her insight from other threads, it makes sense. Oh and to FishwhenIcan, Jesus in front of the altar? That is awful but would have been SO bragworthy.

Re: Confessions: Get something off of your chest.
This thread reminds me of Dostoevsky's Idiot where every person was sharing their most shameful act.
Predictably, no one shared anything shocking since why would they?

Re: Confessions: Get something off of your chest.
I like my middlebrow or bad tastes more than I like the middlebrow or bad tastes of others. I recognize there is often an inherent hypocrisy in that, but still feel my arguable choices have what it takes to make them the better ones. I realize sometimes this is correct and sometimes it is bound to be mere ego, but tend to feel that even the preferences I recognize as purely idiosyncratic are still somehow much better than the idiosyncracies others have chosen or just can't seem to shake off.
In short, not only do I like even the least defensible parts of my personal tastes better than yours, I generally manage to find a way to take some sort of odd credit for them.
Hey, at least I can laugh about being a bit of an ass, though.

Alex,
I think part of why we will admit to things that are shameful rather than shockingly shameful is not just because we are worried about people's perception of who we are, but we are also afraid to admit that we are sick and twisted, it scares us. I would say we all have our darkest secrets that sometimes we find hard to even admit to ourselves. Once you do that though, I would imagine you gain a lot of knowledge and perspective on what type of person you are. I'm not saying everyone is in denial, just that, reflecting on that one critically obscene action, can really be crucial (both positively and negatively) on your development as a human being, and I'm not so sure that as humans, we can handle that. /rant /philosophical nonsense

I can't believe you guys didn't know Splendour is a woman.
Ya, doin' it church. Another confession, she really wanted to do it right on the altar. I tried so hard to figure out a way to get a hold of a key or something but just couldn't. I have done it in a church before but never right in the sanctuary. Man, when I was young, church was a GREAT place to get chicks!!!

Everyone knows that there would only be negative repercussions, so we might as well ask why people don't stab themselves in the neck.
It's a community after all, that people enjoy participating in. "Hi, I like axe-murdering!" is going to shorten the appeal of the place for you and of you for the place pretty fast, so there's nothing that would be achieved with it.

Only when married. Or if you are razing a city or taking slaves.

I assumed when writing it that I was throwing a softball that someone would catch and use to make that exact response.
I'm cool with it! FWIW I think it's fairly universal too so in some ways hardly a confession at all.

Its your way with words, you can think and put into words what most people can't. So your least defensible arguments on this forum can and normally are better than most people's strongest defensible arguments.
Kudos for that.

Re: Confessions: Get something off of your chest.
Thanks. I actually play devil's advocate a little more often than I think people suspect, and don't necessarily always believe what I'm saying myself, but what the hey. It's a playful though aggravating way to see how grounded our thoughts really are.
I do think it's pretty ridiculous that I can feel almost smug about liking soccer better than football and such. It's pretty silly to love one's foibles, but on the other hand, why not?

Being so set in your ideas and ways, and sometimes coming across being rather judgmental. Can setup the perception of egotistical rather than just passionate, or a lack of understanding your roll as devil's advocate.
This can also alienate yourself from others. But then again, a person who self-alienates probably doesn't mind not being well like amongst certain people. Especially on an internet forum. Maybe more clout in real life if you act the same.
