What kind of list is that? Those idiots don't know anything about movies. Not a single comedy either! My favorites are Mrs. Doubtfire and Caddyshack.

Re: Citizen Kane Dethroned

I must have seen Rocky IV about 50 times before I ever saw the original. Because channel 11 in St. Louis showed Rocky IV like once a week for a 5 year stretch it seemed in the late '80s. Once in a while they threw III in there but never, ever the first two.

In fact I think I finally went and rented the original b/c my parents would always say that the original was really good. I think I didn't like it when I first saw it but I was like probably 12 years old. And why no James Brown? Where was the Lambo? The Survivor music? But yeah after I watched it several times and got older it became more apparent how good the original was.

The end of IV is ultimate cheese "IF I CAN CHANGE, AND YOU CAN CHANGE, THEN EVERYBODY CAN CHAAAAAANGE!" USA! USA! USA! Hollywood saves Russia from itself yet again! lol wtf.

But IV is still pretty entertaining. I ****ing hate that Apollo dies though. That didn't have to happen! "THROW THE DAMN TOWEL!" Every time that scene comes on I get mad at Rocky and am like "DUDE, throw the ****ing TOWEL!"

Rocky is a great film. The rest of the Rocky films are good bad films.

I agree, though I'd say 2 and 4 are good bad films, maybe 3 if your push it. The last two were just plain bad.

Rocky is a great, classic story in so many ways. Even with all if its accolades I still think it's underrated.

Re: Citizen Kane Dethroned

Rocky doesn't get enough love because of all the terrible movies it spawned. Basically every underdog sports movie since 1976. And very few were as good, or better than Rocky. I know Rocky didn't invent the sports underdog genre (I guess), but it certainly spawned dozens and dozens of copycat films.

That Mark Wahlberg movie Invincible was on TV one day and I hit Guide and it said "Rocky trades in his gloves for a football jersey." I'm not even kidding. That's how infused Rocky has become with our society. And yes, Invincible is basically Rocky playing football. Decent film though imo. No hate but certainly not close to Rocky.

Re: Citizen Kane Dethroned

Rounders was described as a Rocky clone as well.

I don't understand why people think Rocky Balboa is a bad film. It's the best reviewed one after the first. Just the fact that he was able to make at least a passably decent film out of the ridiculous concept of a 60 year old Rocky returning to the ring should elevate it several notches. I mean, the idea for Rocky Balboa was absurd enough that it had been parodied on The Critic over a decade before it actually happened.

Anyway, Rocky is great and might be in my personal top 10, but I wouldn't think it should be in a legit top 50.

I haven't seen II through V in their entirety in like 19 years so I can't comment on them at this time.

Most great literature being from >40 years ago is obviously more likely to be correct for literature than movies.

Anybody who can stay awake through The Searchers must have a serious man crush on John Wayne.

Apocalypse Now deserves credit as the first reality TV show.

And neither Repo Man nor Tape Heads?

I don't how many people get degrees as film majors each year, but I think we've just discovered what they spend their time doing.

Re: Citizen Kane Dethroned

sequels are mostly about milking the name and making as much money for the least cost they can. few really come close to the original.
