Same was seriously cut up when discovered it had been cancelled and Brother Justin was a brilliant character, actually I'd rate him in my top ten evil characters. Brilliant portrayal.

Carnivale was extremely special. I also couldn't get into 6 feet under.

My buddy and I have discussed whether a production of "Preacher" would do it justice.

Joss Whedon would be the perfect director (ldo), Michael Bay the worst.

Just stumbled upon this discussion while searching for other Carnivale groups as I just recently finished the series. Is this still somewhat "active"?

last post was 2.5 years ago, so not very active, no. Feel free to talk Carnivale though, maybe it'll spur discussion.

That same decision probably wouldn't have been reached post say 2010 as I think HBO now realise that the full returns on their investments in TV shows eventually occurs through DVD sales and broadcast rights over the longer term. This, and the show is quality and I think they just looked at it as a short term thing at the time that it wasn't perhaps giving them the return that justified the expenditure on the production as compared to other shows such as Deadwood (which was eventually canned too and pretty much the same as Carnivale where it was left without a finale that the creator wanted) and the Sopranos.

Season 2 was my favourite as the pace really picked up in the storylines. Probably because Daniel Knauf was told that it would be the last series. You also have to wonder, if it started at this pace, it might have gone for 3 seasons instead of 2.

Agree. He was probably my favourite actor in the show. He just had such a great presence on the screen. Really portrayed a very commanding role as operator of the carnival.

I also just bought Twin Peaks so learning that he was in this too has really got me excited to watch it.

Also, I wasn't much of a fan of Brother Justin but perhaps that was more to do with the scenes in season one involving him because they dragged on a bit.

Glad to see some new activity!

I really enjoyed so much about this show, but especially picked up on a few of the repeated quotes. I started thinking it would be fun to have one or two of those on some shirts to wear around. A few of my favorite quotes were:

You always read the cards
Every prophet in his house
Let's shake some dust

Would anyone else be interested in a shirt with one of those sayings on them? I just think it would be interesting to walk around and see if anyone realizes where those are from. If nothing else, it may spur a conversation with someone!

Thoughts?

Shirts w/ quotes aren't a bad idea, but i'd want to review the show a couple of times to see which ones I liked best.

Unfortunately Luck will suffer the same fate as this. I really liked that show.

A problem I had with Season 2 was that they just started revealing too much.

Spoiler:
Like when "Management" was super mysterious and it could have been anything from just the little man tricking everyone to God himself, it was fascinating, but didn't they eventually reveal it as just some dude? Lame. Keep things mysterious, leave threads hanging.

Again he needed to move it along as the executives had given the series its marching orders after only 1 series.

The other thing that was to hasten:

Spoiler:
Was the appearance of the mysterious character Scudder but I enjoyed him as he hunted down Ben Hawkins at the evil bidding of the preacher

This is one of my favourite scenes (I watched it again at the same time this thread was bumped coincidently enough):

That was a really powerful scene! I really enjoyed the dark theme that set of episodes was portraying. It made me want more in terms of knowing what happened in that town. I remember thinking that there could easily have been a spinoff season to discuss that. Maybe Knauf will expound on that further (if HBO allows that).

People were talking about shows to recommend in OOT LC last night, and I was surprised and amazed to see Carnivale coming up a lot. The good shows stick in peoples' minds and they pass it on, it's wonderfully viral.
