Here is some more modern blues.

The artist is Buddy Whittington, he is not that well known, but I want to share him with you.

OK, I'm catching a ride from the poker room at the V. to my hotel with a friend (who was born on the other side of the globe at least 20 years after Walter died) when this song comes up on her ipod playlist.

Just Your Fool

I take it all back. There's hope for the world after all.

This is Charlie Parr, a blues/country-blues/folk singer from Minnesota I think. Not very well known and I don't actually know if he's still recording. These songs are amazing though, Possessed by the Devil is a favourite of mine.

Two from Gus Cannon featuring Gus on banjo and jug and the immortal Noah Lewis on harp.

Cannon's Jug Stompers influenced Captain Beefheart, Ry Cooder, the Grateful Dead and God knows who else.

Nice jug: Viola Lee Blues

I was born in the desert and raised in the lion's den: New Minglewood Blues

I was listening to the Jug Stompers and wishing that they had some Jed Davenport on Youtube, when lo and behold I found two from my nominee for the greatest harp player of that era:

Don't think I have posted this, but if I did it is certainly worth a rerun.

Endless Boogie by John Lee Hooker and friends.

If you hook this up through a good speaker system it does it justice.

I skimmed through this quick, but will have to come back to it when I have more time. Love the blues.

I didn't see anyone mention Snooky Prior, Eric Clapton, Albert King, Magic Sam, Canned Heat, Johnny Winter, T-Model Ford, and I'll think of more...

And if you haven't heard Ray Charles' Blackjack... you better axe somebody.
