Thirteenth Pick

An obvious first round pick.

You guys may have thought you knew who the alpha female from the 60s was, but you were wrong, and it's time we gave her some...

Pick the Fourteenth

I don't know why I like this voice so much. Maybe I feel nostalgia for the disappearing American Regional Accent. Maybe it's because the fathers of a lot of my friends growing up talked like this. Maybe it's because he was a hell of a talent.

Cagney is a great pick, very iconic voice. He was on my list but probably wasn't gonna take on my last 2.

Gratified to see Dom avoid perma-ban by posting full 8.5 minute version of Won't Get Fooled Again. WTG. Score one Attaboy.

Man you guys just keep leaving the modern singers wide open.

SUB selects
Spoiler:

Thom Yorke

Better known as the lead singer of Radiohead.

Here's "Karma Police" played at Glastonbury this year

In Paris. No surprises he's great here as well.

Of course, his most well-known song, "Creep""

I'm gonna skip John Cole since it has been 12 hourish and I will be out all day and won't have much chance to post. Time to put this draft to bed but it has been fun and entertaining.

Round 14

Dolores O'Riordon

I really like the music of the Cranberries and it because of her voice. I think it is the accent. I could just listen to her all day long.

so far:

Frankie Valli
Karen Carpenter
Frank Gorshin
James Earl Jones
The Hollies - harmony
Roy Orbison
Neil Young
Joni Mitchell
Freddie Mercury
Groucho Marx
Debbie Harry
Little Richard
Buddy Holly
Dolores O'Riordon

Round 15

Shirley Jones

This one goes into the movie musical voice. I like the old movie musicals and they offered up a lot of voice talent singing the standards of those great musical composers. Often they would get a pretty, young actress and then dub her songs with a real singer.

That wasn't necessary for Ms. Jones as this girl had some pipes. She was the female lead in 3 of the most popular musicals back in the day (Oklahoma, Carousel and The Music Man). Her singing is almost operalike and she can hit some high notes I wasn't sure existed. Anyway this is a category that needs to be recognized.

A big thank you to Dom for running this and all the players for participating. As always a very fun draft and I got exposed to some unfamiliar voices that are pretty damn good. What do we draft next

Spoiler:
Sia

Just an astounding range and voice. From her work with Zero 7 and other artists, to her suddenly successful solo career, Sia has a voice for the ages.

Round 15

15 years ago, I would be working in my office while people were watching Adult Swim in the other room. Whenever Cowboy Bebop came on, I'd yell at them to turn it up so I could listen to the music.

Almost picked Sia with my last pick.

This singer didn't start out as a singer but rather as a drummer. But the truth was that he was always a multi-instrumentalist who always had a great voice. He just needed to get out of the spotlight of a songwriting legend to show off what he had.

SUB Selects

Spoiler:

Dave Grohl

He started off as the drummer of Nirvana but established Foo Fighters shortly after Kurt Cobain's death. Since then, Foo Fighters have been mainstays in alternative rock with 7 of their 8 albums reaching Billboard's Top 200. Here are some examples of Dave's singing:
