Re: 1980-1989 Best Movies Draft

Did anyone take Distant Voices, Still Lives either in the draft or after? Can't recall seeing it mentioned, thought it was considered a classic. Also no Shoah (i think), which surprised me since I recall BrokeDonk giving it a positive review not long ago and it's held in high regard. No Hou film either. No Damnation. Granted, I haven't personally seen any of these yet lol. Gonna watch Au revoir les enfants and Distant Voices tonight, though, I think.

No one took Davies' film. Shoah would have been a fine pick. I might also have taken the underrated One From the Heart, and I'm sure I would have gone for Ishtar as a last round pick. It's better than most of the so-called comedies taken.

I don't understand Heat going fairly early in the 90s but Thief going undrafted in the 80s. I'd take Thief over Heat any day.

Indeed. Though Craig Wasson might be the blandest lead actor of that period.

Another piece of corn I love that I thought of for the 70s draft, but realized it came out in 1980 is Inside Moves, a nice little Richard Donner film (I think he's called it his personal favorite) that really tugs the heart. Great performances.

Inside Moves was on my short list and almost was my last pick.
