No. Animals, especially bacon, are delicious.

Truth. I don't eat steak or hamburg, and I'm trying to cut down on other meats (never giving up seafood though).

Honest question - why are people vegetarian?

op of course I am not. Id rather die than live without fried chicken, peperoni, BACON (YES!!!), BEEF (OMG!!), JESUS I FORGOT ABOUT FISH (MMMMMMMM!!!). God Im getting real excited just thinking about how good those dead animals taste. Better than sex.

Some of it has to do with morality - Peter Singer and Tom Regan are two of the most well known animal rights philosophers. Try looking them up for the morality based argument. Pigs are as smart as dogs... how would you feel about a dog being penned up its whole life, unable to move around? Most people would cry out animal cruelty to that.

Personally, I'm trying to reduce the meat in my diet for environmental reasons and out of some concern for the animals. The amount of water that goes into a pound of beef is massive. Do you know anything about factory farming? Look up pig farms in the Carolinas... waste lagoons flooding and polluting local water sources, etc.

Of course, buying local, pasture-raised animals goes a long way in addressing many of the concerns raised by vegetarians (they live better, it's more environmentally friendly, the farms will be smaller and more community based...)

But, like I said, I'm not vegetarian, and I likely never will be. I love seafood! Nothing wrong with cutting down though!

i am.

i really dislike modern meat farming/ it destroys the rainforests/ i dont really see the need to kill animals if you can eat other stuff.

*edit* i would actually be ok with eating meat that i had killed myself in a hand to hand situation, but i hate the modern meat factory method.

It was interesting thinking about that in regard to eating the bear. It was killed not "hand to hand" but in a personal manner, and most parts of the bear were used.

Also, for many people, it's hard to maintain a healthy diet that is vegetarian, especially if you're active. Meat just has so much protein.

I was vegetarian till like 6-7 years ago.

It's not too bad if you like Indian/Mediterranian cuisine. Western cuisine doesn't really offer too much for vegetarians apart from salads and pastas

I actually am. I just dont want to contribute to suffering of other things in unnecessary ways. I understand that humans are at the top of the food chain, were supposed to eat meat, etc... but, I dont have to eat meat to survive, so I just dont. Whenever, Im tempted, I just picture what the animal had to go thru in order for me to eat it, and I just cant do it. Meat has no appeal to me anymore. Im also an extremely empathetic person, so I think that has alot to do with it. The one time in recent memory I did eat meat when i was drunk, it made me vomit as soon as i swallowed the first bite. However, i forced the rest down and saw that the meat was left totally undigested in my pewp the next day. Kool?

This is a good point, given that our current standards for how much protein humans need is based off of research done in the 50s to lab-rats.

no it is true that it is tough to get enough protein. not from an "avoiding basic health problems perspective", but from a "having some muslce perspective". i go to the gym alot, and really struggle with it, i basically have to drink a bunch of protein shakes.

i dont know what you are on about with the 50s rats, this stuff is all clear to anyone who has ever lifted weights seriously just from trying it out.

Yes, because in America, the standard is people who try to build muscle at the gym, not the obese lazy slob. Silly me.
