Stolen Packages-any recourse? Stolen Packages-any recourse?

09-21-2009 , 11:23 AM
So I redeemed a 2 sets of cards from Magic Online(BEAT?) to have it delivered to my apartment that I recently moved into.

I live in the first floor of a 3 story apartment complex right next to a public laundry facility and all the apartment mailboxes. (see diagram.)

So on Friday apparently fed ex left the package at my door and also left the door tag stating they left it there that morning. I was home and I never heard a knock or doorbell. Around noon/afternoon, I walked out of my apartment and saw the door tag but no package. I called fed-ex to see if they might have taken it back but they said they left it there and didn't require a signature because the shipper requested that the package just be left. My apartment office manager never received any packages and none of the maintenance crew said they stumbled across a misplaced package of any kind.

When I asked fed-ex who the hell just leaves a package in a public area without signature requirement, they just said it was the shippers fault they didn't require signature. They also said their normal policy was to bring any packages back if they felt an area was unsecure or had incidents in the past but apparently my location on the first floor right in the middle of everything was fine by them?

I went out of town that week and I had already redeemed another set of cards and knew it was coming in so I called fed-ex to try to intercept it with a signature request. They told me that I needed to give them a tracking number which I didn't have so I contacted the shipper (wizards of the coast) and asked for the tracking number which they never responded to (the only way to contact magic online stuff is via email.) Again, the package was left at my front door while I was out of town even though they should have already know from my previous incident that my apartment was unsecure and again the package was stolen/lost. Who's more at fault here: Me, Shipper, or Fed-ex?

Whats my best play? The redeemed sets in total have a value of about $200-300 which isn't that big of a deal to me. It just a huge hassle and tilting as f..k to know there's a thief in my apartment who takes advantage of fedex just leaving packages at my doorstep and its really annoying to collect all the cards online to redeem it.

I was also thinking of buying a hidden camera and hide it somewhere in the entrance and leave a fake package in front of my door and catch the thief red-handed but meh, probably not worth it. Those things cost like $150+ although there's a sick exit sign hidden camera I saw that could easily replace the one over the laundry facility door.

CLIFFS:
Beat: Fed-ex leaves package at door without signature request or knocking in a completely open public apartment area and packages go missing.
Bigger Beat: Happens again a week later.
Biggest Beat?: I play MTG
Variance: MTG has been more profitable for me than poker this month

Some kind of Krammer style investigation is in order IMO. Go ask each neighbor directly if they saw the package, probably won't be that hard to work out who it is. Or alternatively leave a package of sealed maggots and meat (make sure you have to really open it up to get inside it) on your doorstep, if you make sure they'll be flies by the time someone opens it you'll be closer to karma EV.

I think your only recourse is to take a close up picture of you standing over your camera with out pants and slide the prints under his door.

leave horribly smelling box of garbage in the same place (be sure to seal it really good as to not release the smell until it's opened) wait for the thief to take it, try to locate which apartment the smell is coming from, thereby locating the thief......

[x] locate thief, with above plan
[x] kill their cat
[x] profit???

alternative plan of attack
[x] ask every hot woman in the building "have you seen my package"
[x] get slapped
[x] find sloot that asks "no, but I'd like to"
[x] sects her
[x] profit ?

MTG, Infractions, Insults...

yup. its 4life.

also... people do this all the time A lot of companies seem not to require signatures as i have been with a friend when he had various things delivered, including a designer purse for his girlfriend... which was left at his door... and he called like 2 weeks later complaining about how its late...and how he wanted his money back.

hes a d bag though.

who did you order it from? i ordered a ps3 from amazon and it wasn't there when fed ex said they delivered it.

i talked to amazon and gave em grief for not requiring a sig and fed ex just leaves the package on the porch on a busy street???

i assumed fed ex driver or punks in the area took it.

amazon shipped me another ps3 next day delivery for no charge. (signature required)

the next day, fed ex showed up with my new ps3 and about an hour later some ol dude from down the street shows up with a box that was delivered to the wrong address.....

First stolen package is Fed Ex's fault, they should have known you live in the ghetto.
2nd one is on you for being a dumb **** and ordering another one without sig confirmation required.

Why don't you order another one and have them leave it in the laundry room this time or post your address and date you expect the next delivery so I can wait by your door to safely intercept it for you.

And nice life beat for ordering $300 worth of magic cards, that's pretty pathetic. You shoulda said you ordered $300 worth of Jenna DVD's or a cool poker set instead lmfao.
