Ive tried talking to a couple of girls through online dating and as soon as i tell them im a pro poker player they snap stop talking to me? anyone else have this problem? Has put me off using it.

i've moved a few times over the past 4-5 years. prior to my first gf after my 3yr live-in gf relationship that ended in 2009, i never met a girl online.

after she broke up w/ me, i had already moved to RI with her and lived w/ her for another month (by necessity). after that, i had no resources to meet people and joined match.com for the first time. i found it pretty demoralizing at first as few people would respond. then i met an amazing girl and we dated for 9mo before i moved back to NY.

when i moved back to ny i joined match again and after dating a few girls off match for 2-3weeks each, then a modern orthodox girl for 2 months, i joined jdate. i met a great girl there and we dated for another 9-10mo but i broke up w/ her b/c i coudlnt' see myself spending the rest of my life w/ her and she was 35 while i was 31 at the time.

that was this past december and since then i've been using just match and pof since jdate i think is for more serious, when i'm ready to potentially settle down again type stuff.

overall, i'd say i'd be embarrassed to say i met somebody on pof, though i would say it and not make up some random crap. match and jdate are mainstream now so i'd have no embarrassment saying i met somebody off there.

that said, i feel much better telling people real stories. i went on a few dates w/ a girl i picked up at hunter mountain on the ski lift and that story was GREAT. girl wasn't into me though so that sucked.

i have no 'horror' stories. i do have 2nd hand horror stories from girls (girls i think have way more horror stories than guys do in general i think).

most of my experiences have been positive and i've had 2 serious relationships, one of which resulted in me having one of the best friends i currently have and the other ended badly b/c she wanted to get married, asked me to move in and had an A personality so she took the breakup poorly

I've met my last two girlfriends through online dating, one through Match and one through OKCupid. The last one was a serious relationship that lasted a year and a half, and I certainly wasn't embarrassed to tell anyone how we met. Basically all of my friends who are single have online dating profiles.

I've never understood POF though. Both the software and the quality of people on the site seem much lower to me than either Match or OKCupid, and yet it seems like the site that gets the most discussion on the internet. I've put up a profile on the site, but have never found anyone appealing on it. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?

I have met 3 girls through online dating sites. Banged them all on first date so great success (2 were hot, one average but also a masseuse).

Of the 3 one became my proper GF and I never thought I would give a crap about saying we met online but then when someone actually asked how we met I found myself lying through my teeth hahaha.

Oh this reminds me “Online dating” Indian style is arranged marriage sites where profiles are created and managed by the parents! Match criteria includes in-depth horoscope details, cast, sub cast, clan, family values (i.e. traditional or moderate), Ancestral Origin, annual income, family class (i.e. upper middle class), fathers and mothers occupation and number of brothers and sisters! I met my current boyfriend (of 5+ years) online, but then I had recently moved to the area, plus I'm "older" (over 30) and don't do the bar scene.

I don't think there's a ton of stigma still attached to this, except in the younger demographic. Maybe I'm just deluding myself, though. In any event, I've never had any problem or embarrassment mentioning how we met.
